*sigh*

Well, I'm here to vent. I took my very first road test this morning and failed it. Yep. I've been driving my car around for the past two months and I was feeling super confident and secure. I can parallel park, reverse back in and everything. Even my husband who is NOT an easy sell and a very harsh critic commended me on who good my driving is -- how safe he feels driving with me.

So today, take the test, do the field course no problem, park, reverse, 3 point turn, all good. We get out onto the highway and the trainer tells me to prepare to take a right hand turn. I see a right hand turn about 50feet or less from us but I'm not in the right lane and we get a red light, cars are stopped. So I assume she can't have meant that turn, must be the one past the lights. Um, no. It was that one. So, because we deviated off the course, it was an automatic disqualification, we had to pull into a parking lot so she could drive me back to the MVA.

Sucked so hard. What a crappy morning.

Sorry to hear lgg. That seems crazy to me as well. Would the examiner rather have you cut off the car in the lane next to you just to move over? Sounds to me as though you used good judgment and they penalized you for that.

How soon can you reschedule? I failed my very first driver's test in Toronto when I was in my early 20s; I was so mortified I didn't try again until I was almost 30. I recommend getting right back out there; you'll pass for sure. :)

Pffft! I just turned 40!!! And this is was my VERY first driving test and yes, I plan on going back ASAP to get it done -- I'll be the wiser next time, that's for sure -- I am a big baby when it comes to humiliation. i have another date scheduled but I'm going to try and find one that's sooner so I can just get this thing done. it's so awful, it's not like I didn't know what I was doing, it just didn't seem to make sense. Like I said, I'll be wary next time.

Thanks for the encouragement -- I'll just keep on plugging away. Good thing my husband was playing his patience cards today.

That seems like a really terrible reason for an automatic disqualification. A simple misunderstanding shouldn't equal a failed test. Sorry to hear that, hope it goes better next time!

He probably works part time for USCIS as well!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

similar thing happened to me.. the person wanted me to make a right hand turn and I had to cross over to the other lane to do it but there was this car coming up and there was no way I could make that turn and the lady scolded me but I still passed though...

omg lgg, that sucks :( I'm so sorry. That really seems unfair of them to disqualify you for that. You were trying to be SAFE! I just had my driver's test on Tuesday, and actually it was pretty funny. I remember asking the examiner if he would tell me ahead of time where to go, and he joked that he would unless he zoned out or something and wasn't paying attention (lol!) and if that happens to just keep going and he'd tell us how to get back to where we need to go! People miss turns and get lost all the time. She should've been able to just tell you how to readjust back to where you needed to go. UGH! that bites. :(

It was a HER.

I bet thats part of the reason too. Girls suck!!

No seriously they did some sort of study on one of those 20/20 shows that proved that female instructors were more likely to go easier on guys and vice versa.

Ever get a female border patrol officer? Sorry to be completely sexist but I notice the way the opposite sex treats me and my husband differently when we're at the border. The women are always a little snippy with me, nice to him - and if its a guy they're sort of short with him, and nice to me.

We had a discussion about it back in the day with thetreble and JillA... some people tried to pretend that there is no difference, but there so is! :P

Pft, road rules in california:

Blinkers are optional, middle fingers are the ideal way to say you wanted to merge in.

Never look before you merge, they have to get our of your way, you don't have to make sure that they can.

Constant swirving into lanes that arent your own makes sure that other drivers on the road are awake so do this at every chance.

Green means stop, yellow means slow down, red means speed up and go through anyway, beeping at any of the ******'s who DARE try to turn on their green light.

Likewise, stopsigns are a suggestion.

Speeds - Never go the speed limit. You must always go either 10+ above or below the speedlimit but never the actual speed limit. If you are the only one of 2 people on the highway, driving at 45 is suggested, preferrably in front of the other person.

Rochester generally isn't bad, but I swear we're in the only city in existence that stops at green lights. :bonk:

So, I successfully did 3 loads of laundry, dishes, watered the plants, and picked up all the leaves from our balcony (we have a tree who's branches have ended up right above our balcony... great for shade, horrible because it has huge leaves that drop on our balcony, so we have to clean it basically every other day). I feel like I should do more housework today, but meh!

Here's my next rant. My cat Finnegan is a brat. (I actually find this hilarious.. IF he didn't still have fleas... he's always trying to get in the cupboards... we've had to install child-locks on some of them... it's gross w/ the flea thing. lol)

See evidence: We also find some of those red grassy things from that basket on the floor, which is how we know he's up there other times as well. We've since moved the basket.

Well, I have to say, i am reassured that I'm not the only one who failed the first time -- maybe I'll get a guy next time? well, i'm taking the test again at the same MVA and you know what I'm gonna do? I'm going to go and practice driving all around the area just so I know it like the back of my hand -- see if they can trip me up then!!!!

And Ashen, that's a BAD kitteh! very cute but very bad! My cat is way too fat, old and lazy for that kind of shenanigans My husband's cat would but she gets to go outside to rid her of her lunacy!

Long story short - we got a speeding ticket for going 75 in a 65 zone going through New York almost at Buffalo when we were up a few weeks ago. My husband plead guilty as charged..we knew what we were going...we were actually pulling out to pass everyone and that's when he clocked us (stoopid policeman)

Guess how much the ticket is......$75 but there is an $85 surcharge on top of it...I assume it covers court or admin costs...but how does that work that the surcharge is more then the actual ticket???? Shouldn't it be a percentage of said ticket? And no, we're not late or anything like that :(

Buggers - guess we'll pay it tomorrow, but how irritating to see good $$$ go out the door.
