TickTock-Lol..I guess it got lost amongst the 'turkey talk'....Nevertheless, glad you were able to find the reply...

Lol..Our washer/dryer is about 3 years old...We purchased it brand new when we moved into our old house, and then we moved it to our current new house..."We're taking the washer/dryer with us...No way are they getting that!", I said when we moved..So we took it with us in the UHaul....(along with the rest of our stuff)...And it still works today..lol...

And we had the most hilarious time moving....There we were..Me driving the minivan..2 weeks after giving birth and still recovering form that, and the newborn baby screaming in the backseat...And my husband and BIL driving the UHaul...In the middle of the night, down the country dirt roads...It was crazy..But we got it all done, nevertheless...Thank goodness...

Ok..Moving story aside....Hope you get your dryer fixed....and you do find the replacement part and get that into the dryer

As for the laundry now...Is there someone you can ask for a ride from? Or is there a community transportation system (bus, taxi, etc.) that you can get a ride from too? You can take a little bit at a time...So at least you can get some clothes dried that way...Meanwhile, I guess the hagers and shower rod will have to do. Too bad that the laundry line broke...Maybe you should get that replaced too? Yeah...Totally understandable about the snowfalls...They can break a lot of things...Thank goodness it was only the line that broke, and not anything more than that..

Hope you get your passport soon too...Two weeks is not unreasonable to expect such in the mail, as likewise, that's how long it took to get mine (applying in-person in Canada and having it shipped to the USA). If it takes any longer than a few weeks....Then yes, do give them a call. By the way, did you apply in-person or by mail, as that makes a difference too. The photo specs and guarrantor specs can cause problems too...So hopefully this doesn't cause problems for you either...

Lol...I don't mind cows and goats and other farm animals too...I just don't like them at 4am in the morning making loud sounds running wild across the yard....Seriously..We thought they were going to run into our house...Crazy.....

I agree, farm animals are best off left at a distance to observe instead of close-up.......

Too bad you don't see those cows/goats that you saw before...Who knows, maybe there will be new animals in your area someday...Until then..Enjoy the peaceful countryside (cool too, that you live in a country/rural area) and the nice view out your window..

As for accepting "help"...Lol....I know they mean well...But...As the old sayings go..

"If you want something done right, do it yourself" and "If it ain't broke, don't 'fix' it"........

Good luck in getting your jeep fixed too...

Ant

Man, it sounds like you all had your hands full with that move! Hopefully you guys won't have to move any time soon - it seems the moving process is always hectic, but to varying degrees. In your shoes, I also would not have left the washer and dryer in the old house - no sense buying a new one when you've got one that works. :D

Best I can do for my laundry situation is go over to my MIL's place (with someone driving me there) - she also lives a drive away. We've a few neighbours but I wouldn't feel too right (comfortable? embarrassed?) with asking to use their washer/dryer. There's no public transportation in this town aside from a single bus - moreso reserved for elderly and more than likely not a true "public" thing. It certainly would've been handy to have a working wash line... I'll have to see if anyone sells those cords, though money is tight. We were expecting one of the huge pines to break and fall on the house, but they thankfully survived although some limbs did not. Crazy weather for this area.

For the passport, my father actually dropped the form/photos off in person, along with my consent form. As it was a passport renewal, there was no need for a guarantor and my listed references haven't told me they've been contacted yet. Maybe everything is processing smoothly - a gal can hope, at least!

It sounds like your house was close to being a petting zoo with the animals hanging out so close - not so great at 4am indeed, though! I think living in a rural area certainly has its ups and downs. In our particular situation, it kind of feels like more cons than pros, though. I'd be afraid to ride my bike down the road (no sidewalks) because of people speeding in their Big Trucks down narrow country road lacking in shoulders. Hopefully your road is more peaceful and devoid of people peeling out of gravel driveways late at night, noisy liquor cycles (eesh) and loud music.

The Jeep, thankfully, has not yet started to exhibit any symptoms of being borked, but it's definitely a concern on my mind. The husband of one of my MIL's friends is the gent who "fixed" the air conditioner. I'm just hoping by some miracle he added the right fluid. My MIL had to drive the Jeep around and she couldn't tolerate there being no AC, which I'm totally understandable about. I just hope that her decision won't result in vehicle troubles. Wouldn't be mad at her, but with the gent who should've known what he was doing (being a retired mechanic and all).

Not exactly a vent but it's more of a follow-up.....

We got the house windows tinted..

What a relief to the heat and humidity we've had in the house!

Ok...Now the vent part...

Yet another tornado/severe storm warning for our area.......

It's raining non-stop!.....Hope we don't get flooded.....

Ant

Tinted windows! :o That sounds awesome! I'll have to keep that idea tucked in the back of my mind. Filed in that mental drawer labeled "things to do when I have an income" hehehe...

Though, those warnings do not sound good at all! :S Locally, they will warn us on the news when there's any sort of more-than-normal rainfall. I've always found it kind of ridiculous because it seems like an over-exaggeration. I know it's because the area had bad flooding a few years ago, but they do seem to overdo it. I feel as if they're acting like Chicken Little. I definitely hope you don't have any flooding, and those tornadoes had better stay away!

Be safe, you guys!

Please send some of that rain our way! It is so dry here any lawn I thought I had is gone, even the weeds have dried up and died.

On a positive note the turkeys have migrated south. :)

Seriously though, I hope you don't get flooded, too much rain isn't good either.

Yeah, hope the rain stops soon for you too, Ant - and when you send it down OBX's way send some down to us as well - we need it. We're getting some thunder and lightning and very little rain although the humidex today it is 105 (and sunny - no rain or storms today just a heat warning).

Just a small vent . . . and I am chuckling about how it turned out. . .

We go through a lot of iced tea in our house, especially lately with it being so hot. A lot of times, however, I go to the fridge to get ice tea either for me or for both of us and the pitcher is in there empty. So, no big deal except I have to make more and wait until it is ready to drink. Of course, it is my husband who has been drinking the ice tea, but instead of leaving the empty pitcher out so that I can see I need to make more ice tea (or heavens forbid, perhaps even making more ice tea himself! :P ) he puts the empty pitcher back into the fridge so I can find out later on when I go to get some that we are out.

So, tonight at dinner I knew there was enough ice tea left for one glass so figured I would need to make some later this evening. Just now, when I came back into the the kitchen I saw my husband just closing the fridge door and going back to his chair with a glass of iced tea. So, I asked him ..."Is there any more ice tea left or do I need to make more?" (full well knowing the answer). He stopped, turned around, went back to the fridge, opened the door, took out the empty pitcher and put it on the counter, sheepishly saying, 'I guess we're out". It was the sheepish grin that made me amused rather than annoyed - he knew very well that he had just put an empty pitcher back into the fridge and was caught red-handed.

( And no - he doesn't change the empty toilet paper roll either.) :D

Don't ya just love people like that? Last year at Varba's company picnic someone's wife asked Varba if it's hard being in a long distance relationship. So before Varba has a chance to answer, his co-worker pipes up and starts complaining about how hard it is... that his gf (now fiance) lived half an hour away...

They're getting married in October... gonna be around 400 people at this wedding. I have no clue how they're paying for it.

So next Summer we're planning to bring Ethan on a cross country trip to California, he's growing up fast and it just hit me that we need to do something awesome with him. So I decided to tell my mother about this lastnight and she decides to practically invite herself along.

I mean come on, can we never do anything with just ourselves? It seems if we try to go to the shore, his parents come along, if we try to go somewhere else, my mom wants to come along. Like why can't we ever just go and do something as our own little family? Anyways I have to call my mother at some point today to just say: "This is our family trip, and we never really get to vacation alone as someones parents are always there!" I know that sounds reasonable, but my mother is far from reasonable.

I can't let it get to me too much though... hence letting it go in the vent thread.

You never really know how good of a neighbor you have until they move out and a batsh!t crazy one moves in.

My current neighbor went batsh!t crazy and screamed at me as I left my apartment this morning because she thinks I wake up 10 minutes earlier than her so that I get all the hot water and she is left with a warm(ish) shower. She then agreed to allow me to have my shower at 5:50 and she would have hers at 5:58. All I could say at that point was "allow? You don't allow me anything. I will run the shower as long as I want to." I have this friday off, but I think I will wake up at 5:50 just to run the hot water for an hour.

I'm just going to barge in here and pretend I'm a Canuck for a moment.

Re: the other thread, Sprail totally did the right thing by refusing to let her old 'friend' stay. I find it funny when old friends assume they can stay with you whenever they want a holiday to the States.

I've also found that friendships have changed over time, and looking at some people I used to be friends with, I'm so glad I moved on. I know I'm still young (in my early 20's) but I just feel there comes a point in life where you realise it's time to move on, and you want something more for yourself. I still keep in contact with some of them - and I write to one of them often (with an actual pen and paper!) but it's obvious that we're now two different people, and that's OK with us both. I'm now married and trying to get my career going... she's still casually seeing the same bad boys, spending her money on partying, and recently failed her final year of college. It's the same with most of my old school friends. Most of them are single mothers living on welfare. We just have nothing in common any more. You know when you bump into an old friend and feel that nothing has changed with them, yet you've grown a lot? I think that's when you need to decide to pull the plug.

Lol. Canucks Rules! hehe your welcome to be a Canadian for a day hehe we are nice people well most of us lmao. I can be a b!tch sometimes haha must be the American in me haha :P nah us Canadian girls can be worse then all other girls sometimes lol we are proud to be Canucks and dont hide it but I guess everyone is proud too Well I know American girls are :) Canada and U.S should be more united and less enemies (An impossible dream?) :P

I feel your pain girl. You just gotta stand your ground. I know you might think you sound ungrateful to your mother but you are not being. Its very reasonable that you want some alone time with your own family. Ya know? She'll understand and if she dont that her loss not yours. You are your own woman now. She cant always tell you what to do or invite herself when she wants. That just not the way it works. You say mother Im grateful for all you did for me but now this is my victory. Im grown up. I have a family and I intend on living it the way I want to. Hope this helps. Good luck and dont let her bring you down. She loves you and her love can be possesive you just gotta let go of that and do your own thing. Dont feel guilty you deserve it :)

Yea she didn't understand though, and thats her way of dealing with everything... including the three year grudge of me moving away - I expect that will last a lifetime.

When I told my husband: "Oh my mother wants to perhaps come along" he replied with: "Oh okay! I'll invite my mother too! It'll be loads of fun!" Cheeky guy. :P I knew what he meant, I knew exactly what he was saying and he was completely right - but lets not let him know that ;)
