Worried about the Mumbai Interview

Hi All,

My wife's CR-1 interview in Mumbai is on July 1st and I am getting a bit worried about how much detail the CO will go into regarding her previous visit visa app to the US a year ago.

After our very first meeting and deciding we want to marry each other back in July 2009 she was schedulled to appear at US embassy for an interview for a visit visa. The reason she stated in the app was to visit a family friend for a few weeks (actually to meet my parents/get blessings before we actually got married). Well, she went to the interview and the officer didnt even see the i-134 or our other supporting docs. She was quicly denied due to no strong family ties in the US and no strong financial/job ties to Canada, where she was studying. WIll the CO at the Mumbai interview ask many questions regarding this? We were not married at the time so her status was not spouse or relative.

Please advise.

Thank you,

soza

You are comparing two separate things - a nonimmigrant visa to an immigrant one.

For a nonimmigrant visitor visa, it is important to show that the applicant has ties back to their home country, and will not seek to overstay.

For an immigrant visa, it is understood that the applicant will be leaving their home country.

I wouldn't worry about it. If the Consular Official asks your wife any questions about it, she should answer honestly and there is nothing to be afraid of.

Sorry, OP, is different regs for the IO to follow. Prior denial on a tourist visa RARELY is an issue, unless there were MANY prior denials and a pattern was established - and even that is rare (but does throw some weight on the CR-1 interview day)

IMO, don't sweat it, but do be upfront on interview day, answering any questions about it TRUTHFULLY.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Agree with the previous posters. Shouldn't be an issue but if it does come up -- usually in the form of "Have you ever been denied a US visa before? Why? -- just answer truthfully.
