Dear all,

I have something in regards to the medical exam in London that i desperately need help with. Basically over the past 5 years i have had a couple small bounds of depression, well what the doctor describes as depression this sits on medical history as this. However, it turned out to be something else and I have now dealt with it - but as it is not recognised by the doctors and a medical condition in the UK they put down depression. Therefore when i get asked do i suffer from depression i want to say NO because it turned out to be something else which has now been dealt with. Now I really dont want to open myself up for scrutiny so therefore if i put NO will they have sight of my medical records at some point which could mean all sorts of problems? Or do they have authority to get them?

Please help, I know this is a little weird but I would prefer not to explain exactly what i dealt with.

If the answer to the depression question is no, then answer no on the form they give you. If you disclosed your condition, whatever it is, at the medical they may ask you to have a psychiatric evaluation from doctor who treated you for any specific mental health problem to ensure whatever you suffered from has now been treated and you do not pose a risk to yourself or others. They don't ask to see your medical records.

So am I right in saying that for this point of view they will not have view of my medical records. Like I said its not something that they would understand it is not recognised in the UK as a condition. Now that I have it sorted there is no problem but if there is any GP doctor involvement this could be a real problem.

It effectively a learned behaviour, in fact I had a counsellor that helped me through it (its basically stuff to do with my past). So if i tick the box NO we just move on and we are done?

Doghandler, thank you very much for your help on this it is much appreciated.

To reassure you, they give you a form to complete when you arrive, it is pretty much the same as the form you will have already completed and will have with you which can be viewed here:

If you tick no to any of the questions, you are done. They do not ask for your GP's name or address and they do not have view of any of your medical records.
