Hello everyone,

I was wondering if it is better to send in the I-130 payment in the form of a check or money order?

Another question I had was my checking account has a hypenated name (ex: oldname-newname). Should I get the account put in just my new married name? The I-130 and the G-325a do have the oldname listed as previous names used. What do you think? Change the account name or leave it?

most people pay with check but either is fine

they don't care so much about the name on the check but that the check has good funds in the bank....

I don't think that the account name matters as far as the immigration process.

I generally prefer checks because there is more room for error...with a money order you have to physically hand a considerable amount of money over, so if you make a mistake, lose it, etc. you are in trouble. Plus, money orders cost a small sum.

Go with check especially checks in your name. Checks are better records than money orders.

IMO a cheque is a better choice only because you can track when it has been cashed and your receipt number can be determined from the number marked on the back. Don't worry about changing the name on your account, USCIS is only concerned that the cheque doesn't bounce. Good luck!
