Hey everyone, I just got an email from the Islamabad Embassy where my fiancee is supposed to have her interview. The thing is, the email says that I need to mail in all the necessary documents so they can determine an interview date, but I thought that they first make an interview date and then all the documents are brought there? I am not sure what I should do

here is the what they sent me, Ive highlighted the part in red:

K VISA APPLICANT(S) DO NOT NEED DS-160 FORM

Dear Applicant,

Our office is now electronically sending instructions for Packet 3.5 for K1/K3 visas. You do not need to wait for Packet 3.5 in the mail. Please follow the instructions and links below to use the electronic version.

1. Electronic Visa Application Forms & Fees

You should complete and print the following forms online. You can download these forms here.

· DS 156 – 2 Copies · DS 157

· DS 156K – only for K1/fiancé visas · DS 230 – only complete Part 1

· Parents’ Information form available here

· Visa Fee $350.00 only. Find fee schedule

2. Courier Service

Please print the completed forms and submit the required number of copies at the nearest American Express or Speed-Ex office. A list of these locations can be found here.

Important Note:

Applicants living outside Pakistan can submit forms via reliable courier services like FedEx, DHL, etc.

3. Civil Documents

Following civil documents with translation and copies are required:

· Original birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce/death certificates (for all prior marriages)

· Police certificates from all cities where you have lived for more than 6 months after reaching the age of 16 (Police certificates from Afghanistan or India not needed for Pakistani citizens)

· 2 additional visa photos (front view) with white background (2x2 inches) - photos must be un-cropped and without any editing or enhancements, complete hairline should be showing

· Copy of the first 2 pages of the applicant’s passport

4. Affidavit of Support (I-134) Optional

Petitioner/sponsor may submit the Affidavit of Support. It is optional for K1/K3 applications. We will review the submitted documents for completeness and will contact the applicant for any additional documentation. Once the applicant is documentarily qualified, we will schedule an interview.

5. Medical Exams

At the time of the interview, the applicant must also provide medical exam results from an Embassy designated physician. The list of these physicians is available here. You do NOT need to bring your chest X-rays to the Embassy.

We hope this information will be helpful to you. Please do not hesitate to contact us via email at pakivquery@state.gov if you require any further information.

Thanks,

Thanks, does anyone here happen to know the best way to send papers overseas? like what company? dhl, fedex... Also, does the I-134 need to be sent with those papers also or is that due at the interview?

I would think either DHL or FedEx would be solid. The I-134 is due at the interview, but that's soon as far as I can tell from your writing. If you haven't got all the stuff ready now, send two packages. But it's on, soon.

By sending two packages, he meant send ONE package now with the forms that are ready and needed for scheduling the interview appointment. The SECOND package could be the I-134 sent at a later time but before the interview as he believes it is due at the interview.

===== Separate Question =====

4. Affidavit of Support (I-134) Optional

Petitioner/sponsor may submit the Affidavit of Support. It is optional for K1/K3 applications.

It seems the I-134 is OPTIONAL for Afghanistan. Is that your understanding from previous posters from Afghanistan? Very strange that they would not require an affidavit of support.

It might mean that some form of Affidavit of Support is necessary but not the I-134. You could use something else.

===== END of separate question =====

Good luck.

Thats weird that its saying that the affidavit of support is optional, I've never heard of that ever being the case, how would I find out if its really needed or not?

The correct thing is to assume it is absolutely positively required and fill it out taking it very seriously.

I asked because I think it is absolutely crazy to write something such as Optional for the I-134.

Good luck.
