Hi,

VISA, PASSPORT and the "DO NOT OPEN" envelope arrived today! YAY!!! now for the move and loading up the Uhaul truck... :)

Cheers!

I used U-haul for my move and had no probs, BUT ensure you give it a good look over before you accept the truck--as U-haul as a less than stellar mechanical record!! And check the tire psi--to help give u a bit better gas mileage. I only attained around 10 mpg with my rental, but I was zipping along at 75mph!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Congrats usmcfiance, Suzique, and Catbones!!! I think Montreal The Sleeping Beauty (more like monster) has finally woken up...I really would just like to know what was happening there when everything was on hold...would love some sort of justification for the suffering and torture that we all had to go through!

Congratulations to all the happy ones! I'm glad to see some action is finally going on. I don't know if the monster is up completely though. I'm still waiting (10 weeks tomorrow).

Hi Monica6,

Do not worry or stress, I'm not sure why you are waiting for your visa, but my situation was pushing the limits. Believe me, when immigration lawyers back off, must be little complicated. So hang on. Mine was 12 weeks, I'm sure your visa will be approved this week. Call DOS today or tomorrow and see. I called DOS on Thursday, and ask but the visa was approved at 4PM Thursday and Printed on Friday.

Good Luck.

Hi Catbones,

Thanks for encouragement! I know your case was very complex and your need to get the visa was super pressing.

It's good I have a timeline now...I will call DOS every day.

Have a great time with your family!

I got my visa in the mail today... Thanks everyone for listening to me complain about montreal! I got it almost exactly 3 months after my interview and 2 months after sending in the Japanese police certificate. Booked my flight today and I leave tomorrow morning. Hopefully the delays around the Toronto Airport don't slow us down too much. Turns out Obama arrives shortly before I take off!

congratualations to you all, and me too!!! I received our visas today, I am so thankful. I know our situation is not a complicated as catbones but it still has been stressful. Like everyone keeps saying, hold on and it will happen (I really did not think it was going to) I even called DOS the next day to make sure that somebody did not get it wrong.

Thank you everyone for the support and the answers. (Now I have alot more)

thank you again.

Congratulations everyone on getting your visas! It seems there has been a recent flush of activity from Montreal so that is good. Safe travels one and all - and hope you all have totally uneventful POEs.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Would you mind telling me how long did it take (after you sent the passport)?

Also do you know if having a visa approved means anything? DOS said my visa was approved but not issued. Anyone got that?

Thanks.

Thanks! I hope so, although I'm so confused...approved,issued, printed, mailed...sounds like a few more torture steps.

from what happened to mine, it was approved and issued on June 18 and I received it June 24, I am wondering if they do a mass mailing for each week. I called the DOS a second time just make sure that it had been issued, and that is when she told me it had been approved and issued on the same day. As for mailing out she could not tell me.

You will probably get it this week then if they do mass mailings.
