DS-230 Part II Social Security Number

If you can't find the card, its probably a good idea to ask for a replacement. But normally the SSN questions on the DS 230 apply mainly to immigrant visa applicants - I'm not sure if they'll pay attention to it in the case of a K visa, but it doesn't hurt to try.

You still may have to go to the SSA office when you get to the states and apply for a replacement.

BTW I'm moving this thread to the consular forum - this is not an issue for the NVC.

DS-230 is not required for a K-1 Visa. It is not required for Adjustment of Status either. Are you filing the petition, or filling out forms for the Visa application?

I had the same situation when I went to school in the U.S. My SS number is actually the same as the one I obtained in college, but the wording on it was different. I did not check off that I needed a replacement, but I went in to the SS office and change my info that way.

Many (most) US Embassy - IV Units want the DS-230 part I only.

a K-1 filer is NOT to fill out part II of the DS-230.

IMO, this 'question about SSN' doesn't apply to you, because of visa type.

OTOH - On or about day 16, past the POE date (as a K-1 visa holder), you can go into any SSA office, and apply for the SSN.

Yer a special case, since you had one before - they'll issue replacement card , with same number, showing different wording on status/DHS verification.

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Hi Guys,

Thank you for your replies. I am applying through the American Embassy in Armenia. I received a checklist of forms to complete and documents to bring with me on the day of the interview. DS-230 is one of the required forms to complete according to the checklist. I also need to fill out DS156 and DS156K. I guess requirements vary along the consulates.

I won't ask for a replacement of SSN now as I have my card. I will see what I am instructed to do when I arrive to US.

Thanks again for your help. In a few days it will be 3 months since we filed 129 F package. So things are moving pretty fast ! And this forum is indeed very helpful :)
