POE Dublin

My fiancee is very likely going to be going through the POE pre-clearance in Dublin and then will fly directly to Chicago O'Hare (ORD) where I will pick her up. I've never heard of this pre-clearance thing before, so I wanted to know if anyone here had any experience with it.

She will be flying Aer Lingus from Manchester to Dublin, Dublin to ORD. I've checked and Aer Lingus does participate in the program. So when she goes through, she clears with the passport control officer, hands over the MBE and passport and then clears customs, right? After that, I would imagine she lands in the international terminal at O'Hare. Will she have to go through that again or will she be waved on through?

She goes through immigration in Dublin, handing over the MBE and collecting her I94.

She will clear customs at ORD and nothing else.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

That sounds good. Is there a separate corridor she goes through to bypass the passport control? I'm trying to imagine how ORD is and there's no way to avoid going through the passport control.

Not that I'm worried; I'm more curious than anything. That and I'm hoping that it won't be a long wait, provided customs doesn't take a long time.

Have you tried reading the POE reviews for Dublin? There appear to be two field entries, Dublin and Dublin, Ireland...I didn't read them (at all) but maybe someone has mentioned the arrival end already.

They will be told on the flight which way to traverse through the terminal. Everyone on the flight will have cleared immigration in Dublin, so they will all be told which signs to follow to by-pass US immigration and go straight to customs.

PS - Customs is the suck at ORD and these flights sometimes do run late.

I've always just walked past customs at ORD in the past and have never been flagged to be inspected. Although I would assume she might be flagged for a customs check coming in as an immigrant, right?

Well, I guess I'm referring to claiming the baggage and re-checking it for a connecting flight.

ORD has always been my final destination for international flights, but yes, I've had to do that at the Miami and Philadelphia POE's and it is The Suck. That's why I always try to make ORD my POE from now on.

I went thru Dublin as my POE with a K1 two years ago. Very easy, they were very nice about it. She will be taken to the wee office they have to do fingerprints and all that stuff. Takes about 10 minutes if that.

Once she gets to Chicago, they have officers waiting to wave everybody straight through to baggage. There is no separate corridor, you go straight through a closed immigration desk. I just walked past customs, they took my form and wished me a good day. All round a pleasant experience.

All will be fine. Good luck! :)

Your POE may not be Dublin. My fiance went through Dublin three weeks ago flying Continental to Newark, and he didn't pass immigration until arriving in Newark. It entirely depends on your airline and terminal, and apparently these have changed lately. Continental, for instance, used to do POE in Dublin and now they do not.

Yeah, going direct to Orlando you don't (didn't - the last time i flew direct) go through pre-clearance, but i went via Boston (Logan) at the new year and went through customs in Dublin. My plan is to do that when i leave on July 7 as customs in Orlando is sooooo slow.
