Well, hate to tell you, but expect the USCIS fees to go up this year also, probably later in the year.

Wow ! I had not heard anyhting about that !

Yes, the drafts of the new policies have been presented, they werew drafting fee increases last September and inside word is to expect 50-100% across the board increases in all USCIS fees. That means petitions and AOS. So anyone anticipating the arrival of their SO later this year ought to get their AOS filed as soon as possible when they can. There wll be a 90 day "comment period" on the new regulations so will have 90 days, minimum, warning of the fee increases.

It looks like we sneaked thru this time. I am not surprised about the fee increase, I am surprised that it is only $350, not $3500 or $35K! We'd pay anyway, aren't we?

US government needs to crank up revenue before going into default and the only way is to increase taxes and junk fees. Nobody will be looking for a US visa after the default, so the maximum profit should be collected ASAP! It is easier to do when people have no choice, but pay! Ask any monopoly :) Well, actually hospitals and Hollywood doing the best job in that department! US government takes the third.

Thanks for the rant, but no one competes with the government. Imagine if you will...try to imagine...ANY other business announcing it will implement a 300% increase in prices on June 4th...

$9.00 per gallon gasoline

$9.00 per gallon milk

$18.00 per pack for cigarettes (and the money goes to the tobacco company, NOT tax)

Cable TV? Cell phones? Electricity?

Thinking about that? Do you think there would be congressional hearings?

I, for one, am glad to see the fee increase. It's about time government ran like this. Can you imagine if every government office was self-sufficient?

I'm not really sure how Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development or Department of Education would run, but in truth, I don't really care. Seems to me those things could be (and should be) run by the states. I seem to remember something about regulating interstate trade and providing for the common defense... and not much else. Importing a wife doesn't fall into either of those categories so I guess we should pay.

You are right, Slimster,

In fact, they should just round up the visa fee to an even $500, and round down the AOS fee to $1000. Easier on the brain to calculate for us Public School Edumacated folks.

Looking at your timeline it's easy to guess why you think that way.

I wonder what new filers have to say about that? Take a lucky guess...

Of course your are. I wonder if they increased those fees back in 2005, when you filed, would you still be glad? ;)

While I do not think that 300% increases are justified, I would not have a problem with higher fees and would not have when I filed. Actually I thought it was surprisingly cheap, remarkably cheap. I had absolutely -0- knowldege of this when I asked Alla to marry me but when I checked out the cost I was shocked how low it was, really.

For all the horror stories, the process is remarkably cheap and easy. And I paid for THREE people. I have been in construction for many years and the government fees we pay just for permits are incredible and it can take 2-3 years to get permit approves, STATE permits! Or more. One project I am doing now was tied up in permitting for SEVEN years and the permits cost more than $35,000 And THAT was for a SCHOOL!!!!!!! And NO ONE immigrates or gets a green card.

I had a brake job, shocks and wheel bearings done on my company truck....routine maintenance that will be repeated in 2-3 years. More than $1000! How does that comepare to a green card and US permanent residency AND a short path to citizenship? No comparison.

If you balk at the fees you are in big trouble, life costs just whole lots more than these paltry fees. At 3 times the price it ia super deal! BUT I still say, any private business that did the same would be grilled to death by the government.

The process and costs for the fiancee/spouse visas easily rank as one of the world's best bargains.

I never blinked at the fees and I paid for three people. I would have thought 3 times as much still a bargain.

And remember it is just the down payment to get them here. If the down payment scares you, you better give this some thought.
