Phils Visa..??

Hi Everyone. My wife may be taking my son to the Phils with her next year and staying more than 3 weeks. Do we need to get our son a visa extension? Or since he is her son and she is Filipino no need? He is US citizen born here in U.S.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.

Your wife may avail of Balikbayan privilege. This privilege is extended to his/her spouse and his/her children.

She only needs to present the Philippine immigration officer with her Philippine passport (current or expired), the child's birth certificate, and of course, both passports.

If you travel with her, you may avail of it also. You would need to show your marriage certificate.

The Balikbayan visa is valid for 1 year. You may avail of this only once a year.

You can verify this information by contacting the Philippine Consulate office in San Francisco. This office has jurisdiction over Colorado.

ENTRY / EXIT REQUIREMENTS: U.S. citizens may enter the Philippines without a visa for tourism purposes upon presentation of their U.S. passport, valid for at least six months after the date of entry into the Philippines, and a return ticket to the United States or an onward ticket to another country. Upon arrival, immigration authorities will annotate the traveler’s passport with an entry visa valid for 21 days. If the traveler plans to stay longer than 21 days, he/she must apply for an extension at the Philippine Bureau of Immigration and Deportation's main office at Magallanes Drive, Intramuros, Manila, Philippines, or at any of its provincial offices.

Not a problem. Many people with Filipino spouses aren't aware of this program. Some just pay for extension of their tourist visas. When in fact, they need not pay anything at all.

The Philippine immigration officer will not automatically give the balikbayan stamp to those eligible. They must, however, actually invoke this privilege to the IO, and provide the supporting documentation.
