Thanks Charles- I'll see if anyone else weighs in on this! It seems like there are two things needed for the "DAS"- Police and Migratory certs? Seems like she can actually pick-up one of the two from an office in her home town (Pereira) and the other one only in Bogota? (but I think she can still do paperwork and pay for the Bogota pick-up one in Pereira and then just pick up in Bogota?) Not sure exactly how this works.... I guess one thing I am worried about, is her having to do some "stuff" without me, when she gets the packet 3 after NOA2 is received by me.... I want to be able to guide her how to go about doing things like the DAS thing, medical things, filling out the forms, etc.

Thanks,

Joe

Joe, the Certificado Judicial (Police Certificate) is needed for all visa applicants and will show your fiancé's record in Colombia. The Migratory Movement letter (Carta Migratoria) will show all her entries and exists from and to Colombia, even if the person has not traveled outside of Colombia he/she needs to get it so the embassy can verify the information. Both can be obtained from the DAS. The Certificado Judicial can be obtained in any DAS office in Colombia and I believe it's valid for 6 months, but double check that. The Carta Migratoria can now only be obtained in Bogotá, so if she wants she can get both before the visa interview.

Actually the certificado de policia is a document that says that you do not have an current arrest order by the Juditiary system, however, that does not say that you have not been arrested or convicted of a crime, if you already served your time. So if there is anything in the past, make sure it has been cleared, and get copies of everything.

The migratory certificate, is a record of legal exits and entries from and to Colombia, however, make sure you look at the copy you have, there is an usual number of mistakes, that will get noise in the system, have it corrected ("any inconsistency must be resolved by the Colombian authorities"), in other words, be always prepared with proof, The CO's are from Missouri

Our's does not have her exit from Aruba for a 5 day vacation but clearly she did exit and has itinerary and passport stamps to back it up. Is this not sufficient?

You could use the actual trip ticket to prove it, you can get it , if the trip was in the last 3 years, from the airline. going to DAS is useless.

We don't have the ticket, we have:

- The American Express Travel printout

- The visa which was only valid 6 days

- The exit stamp

- The fact that shes now standing there in Bogota vice sitting in Aruba as DAS suggests.

You think DAS won't change it if presented with the error?

I tried to make them change my birthday in the report, it sates I was born January /1 /1900, so I am 108 years old!!!!! as of September last year, they are not making any changes, they suggested I go to Fiscalia, and to open and investigation,(at least 2 years) so they can find out what was wrong!!!!, now I did talked to consulate in Bogota, and they suggested a solution, which is feasible, so call them on Wednesday, you have plenty of time.

The solution is for you not to worry too much about it at this point, if I understood much of that last message . :)

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Hall900 is right not to worry much about it. Call the embassy on a Wednesday and ask them, they are very helpful, what is important about this, as it is in the whole process. is to be aware of details, so IF(and onlyIF) the subject comes up, you are not surprise, and have an explanation,

Okay, it seems we have a bit of a problem.

Miss DeathNova went to Banco de Credito to pay for the visa and they're trying to tell her that her passport document number (the one embossed on the cover) is her passport number and not the number that actually says "Passport Number" on her passport. Maybe i'm retarded but they're trying to make her fill out two new DS-156 (didn't know it was the banks job to do anything but take money and carry on) with the passport document number.

I told her to go ahead and do it just to get the receipts and then bring both to the embassy to ask for further instructions. I'm assuming i'm correct here or did I just mess up all of her forms by typing the "Passport Number" as the passport number?

In the grand scheme of things, if there is an error once shes at the embassy will they allow her to fill out a new form on the spot or will they send her home?

As another member said the biographical page of a Colombian passport shows the cédula as the passport number, which is wrong. The passport # is the number embossed on the cover. HOWEVER, for some reason people will never look at this number as such. My husband traveled to Colombia last November and he entered this embossed # at the counter when he checked in, the airline lady told him that was the wrong number and she entered his CC that is on the passport. It was a complete mess because this happened again at the Avianca counter.

So in summary, no the CC # is not the passport number but many people will mistakenly think it is.

My dear Diana:

if you are accusing the notary system of corrupted you have to have evidence, it is still one of the reliable systems in Colombia, what is truth, is that you can go to a notary Public and swear that such and such child is yours, and then based on that you go to registraduria, and say that such statement is true, from there you have a certificate, which is legal, but the CO, interpreted that there is something to be looked at, since the papers are not coordinated. Now, the DNA test is extremely reliable, so if it comes back negative, the CO was right, if not, the CO was just doing his job.

Yes, that's a true statement. I am clearly and openly accusing a lot of Notaries of being corrupt and getting anything done for a buck in Colombia. I've seen it all my life and it's not rare to find a particular employee to do it for you. It is not done by everyone (thank God for that) but you can easily find a Notary willing to change info, or even get new registered items for the right price.
