Luckily, something like a Passport Number can be corrected on site at the Embassy if they decide to countermand the instructions given by Banco de Crédito.

It should be important that people pay close attention to what they're told by 'official' participants in the visa process so they can accurately communicate them to the Embassy as needed and with enough proof that its what is being requested. Also, if Banco de Crédito is giving you a problem at the teller window about something you know is wrong... then always elevate the issue to a supervisor that can verify the information.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

If her DS-156 is wrong then that means her DS-230 is also (although they accepted Part I by fax). If this is the case will they give her a new DS-230 to fill out at the embassy or just turn her away for having bogus paperwork?

Have extra (blank) forms with you on interview day just in case. Again, I can't stress enough the importance of getting next to a guarantee in writing by whomever is supervisor at any official visa business about anything that appears to be a variation from the process. That way you have accountability for any 'mistakes.'

Okay, it seems we have a bit of a problem.

Miss DeathNova went to Banco de Credito to pay for the visa and they're trying to tell her that her passport document number (the one embossed on the cover) is her passport number and not the number that actually says "Passport Number" on her passport. Maybe i'm retarded but they're trying to make her fill out two new DS-156 (didn't know it was the banks job to do anything but take money and carry on) with the passport document number.

I told her to go ahead and do it just to get the receipts and then bring both to the embassy to ask for further instructions. I'm assuming i'm correct here or did I just mess up all of her forms by typing the "Passport Number" as the passport number?

In the grand scheme of things, if there is an error once shes at the embassy will they allow her to fill out a new form on the spot or will they send her home?

In the newer colombian passports, in the page where the picture is, on the upper right hand corner says: passport number, the problem is that in the space underneath, there is no number of passport(smart move in the contract), but a line bellow, there is number CCXXXXXXX, which is the cedula de ciudadania, so some smart people,(like the secretary of dr Roa, use that as a passport number, it is an obvious mistake, an as long as you are aware of it,(you change passports but never a cedula), it can be explain and corrected.

hello happy new year my name is erika im ususally at the spanish forums ,i to just had a bad experience with that guy that danny and brillit had i had my interview on 18 of december he demanded a dna testing of my daughter which is his but she was registered under my ex husband took her when she was born (long story) well also he requested a dna of his daughter for the fact that she was just registered ,my worried here is what if that result comes neg what will happen ,anybody knows ? i think they should replace that guy he told me he didnt think my 4 yr relationship which i showed pic and all 50 q he asked me a my fiancee was fake but for the reason that colombia is number 1 in frauds and that everyday theres 20 case of frauds he had to make sure and that im not in those 20 per day i swear i wanted to punch him .well anyway any advise on what to do ,the charging me 850 dollars to do the testing plus what ever fees bogota has to put on top , all help is appreciated happy new years guys

Hello Erika,

If the result for his daughter comes back negative then her visa will be denied and there is nothing you can do. A visa can only be granted to him and his biological children.

As for your comment to replace the CO, you can't take it out on him and instead put yourself in his shoes. If you're the CO and a couple comes to request a K1 visa for him and a daughter they recently registered as his, what would you think? Of course there would be doubt about it since in Colombia anybody can pay a few pesos to a Notary and have the birth certificate done with whatever info you want in it. I still don't understand why he requested a DNA for your daughter as well since she's already a US citizen, but as far as his daughter goes, I totally understand where he's coming from.

Just be ready. Do not assume much and certainly, do things as instructed to on the day of the interview to not be there until they close. I think that if a passport number is what you see as a 'problem' then it looks like you two will be fine.

My dear Diana:

if you are accusing the notary system of corrupted you have to have evidence, it is still one of the reliable systems in Colombia, what is truth, is that you can go to a notary Public and swear that such and such child is yours, and then based on that you go to registraduria, and say that such statement is true, from there you have a certificate, which is legal, but the CO, interpreted that there is something to be looked at, since the papers are not coordinated. Now, the DNA test is extremely reliable, so if it comes back negative, the CO was right, if not, the CO was just doing his job.

Hello to all....

Ok, I have a question... My wife has her Colombian passport and it expires in 2010. She was telling me that she wants to go ahead and renew it, so that when she gets her visa it will be on her new passport. Also she says that if she does not renew it now.... it may be more dificult in 2010 since she will be here in USA. My question is.... Will she need her Colombian passport after she has her green card? Will she need this passport after she enters USA? Will she need this passport for traveling? I am very sorry for these maybe stupid questions... But I have no clue....

Another question... At what point, after she arrives to USA (Florida) can she travel for example to Puerto Rico (to meet my family)? Will she need to wait for her green card? How does this work?

I appreciate everyones help and time to answer these questions...

Have a great day...

I WANT TO WISH EVERYONE HERE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR

THANKS,

Kelvin

I just want to make sure we will need her passport, because if not we will be spending aprox. 200,000 pesos in vane....

HAL 9000 says wuuuu-saaaa.

Yes, she'll need a Colombian passport to travel internationally until and if she files for Naturalization here once possible. As for renewing... she may have an easier time here at a Colombian Consulate since their workloads are lighter than going through the normal channels back in Colombia. The GC pretty much will allow her to qualify for most visas US Citizens can get but she'll still have to apply for visas most of the time. Without the typical denials normal Colombians would get.

Y papá... si quiere ir a nuestra Isla del Encanto no te preocupes mano. Como somos colonia gringa no hace falta pasaporte gringo ni GC. She can travel to PR at any time once arriving in the US although USCIS gate agents at SJU may ask where she's from and where she's going to upon boarding the return flight from PR. No worries- have her Colombian Passport with visa available if they ask for ID, and leave the I-94 she gets when entering the US the first time in there too just in case. She'll need it anyway to check in on the way to PR since you need Gov-issued ID to get past check-in and TSA.

Y Feliz Navidad también.

Papa asi se habla me gusta que sepas claramente que eres una Colonia, que vivan los leones de PONCE. Now to get a passport in Colombia takes 2 hours, in a consulate, depends, and you are right, Colombians need visa for almost everywhere(except Vietnam), so to have one is better specially if you are not going to live near a big city.

I see a lot of little things as potential problems but there is no sense in worrying about most of them unless the embassy actually says they're a problem on day of appointment. I'm just hoping the CO's are reasonable.

Hey guys,

So we just got the interview date - its November 6. The mail was actually faster this time than the update on the website. So i got a few questions with the paperwork that they require. If she has not been in any judicial trouble, do we need to show anything for the judicial and prison records part of the paperwork? we already got the certificado judicial. Another question is for the immigration records. My wife and her parents applied for a visa in 1999 and they were denied - she was only 10 at the time so do we need to show anything for the immigration records part of the paperwork? She does not have anything close to what they specify like documents for asylum, changed status or anything like that.

Furthermore, i am not going to be able to go to the interview with her because even though i am in Colombia right now, i have to travel back this Wednesday to go on some medical school interviews. So my question is: As far as the I134 affidavit of support goes, i only made about 2000 and 3000 the past two years because as i said i am a student. I will be using my sister as a co-sponsor so do i have to specify anything that she is a cosponsor or just fill out two I134s and provide the corresponding evidence? Finally, The I134 has to be original so i have to send it to her from the US because my sister is over there and i need to get the thing notarized over there, so do you guys know of a good service to send it so it does not take long because since her interview will be on the 6th of November i need to get there fill it out notarize and send it ASAP.

Her certificado judicial will show her record, so it should be empty without any notations since she hasn't been in any trouble, she still needs to get her Carta Migratoria from the DAS as well even if she hasn't left the country. As far as fo the immigration records, the US Embassy should have records of this and she needs to be honest about it.

Yes, the 2 notarized I-134s should be enough for the sponsoring part of the process. The only services I've used is Express Mail and it usually takes about a week to get to Colombia but wait for other members to see what they've used.
