Changing name after marriage

I got married in March. I just received our marriage license, so I changed my name on my license. I am getting our package together, and was wondering, do I need to change the name on my passport to show the changed name before I can mail in my package? I will be putting a copy of my passport, and was just wondering if having my old name on there will cause a problem. Thanks in advance!

We changed EVERYTHING as quickly as we could. I will not say it shall cause problems...but are you willing to take the risk?

I have read several posts here on VJ that have indicated problems with USCIS or NVC placing the wrong name on paperwork.

Whatever the reason for incorrect paperwork...are you willing to accept it?

Some may say it won't matter....does it matter to you if you receive paperwork that is wrong?

Just like any other gov't agency, USCIS could possibly mess things up but not necessarily. I never changed the name on my passport and it didn't affect anything. I still haven't changed it and it's been 5 years. Personally, I wouldn't delay sending in paperwork to change the name on my passport, if I were you.

I did not change the name on my passport or drivers license! Your name is on your license, you can include a copy and my name was also NOT changed on my social security card at stage of USCIS. NO problems!!!!!!!!!

Interesting because I really thought that it was Moroccan custom for the woman to keep her own fathers family name and not to take the name of her husband. Am I wrong? The reason I ask is because if this is Moroccan custom.....so on your marriage certificate you have one name....then if you plan to later become a Moroccan resident by means of marriage to a Moroccan...then your name would be different than your marriage certificate and possibly cause problems with residency there. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. For now I only intend temporary residency there with him but one day we might go back to stay.

I didn't change my name once we got married because in Egypt the women keep their maiden name. The marriage contract and the translation had my same last name on there. So we have decided that we will get "remarried" in here and have a Florida marriage license to get the name changes.

In the state of Georgia its against the law not to have your legal name on your drivers license. And you only have 30 days in which to do it. There were a couple of cases here in Atlanta where a woman was stopped for speeding and arrested because the name on her license was not her legal name, which was her married name. If you change your name when you marry and have your social security card updated to that new name you have to change it on your drivers license. At least you do here.

Don't know about the passport. But I did send mine in for a name change and all they did was stamp it in the back that the name was legally changed to my married name. I still get bothered at airports and have to direct them to the back name change page. I'm so happy mine expires next year and it will be corrected on the picture page.
