RKL came up with this idea, so ####### not! It'll work exactly like the regular season compo, only the fixtures will obviously be the WC games.

I'll list each round of group games (8 groups x 2 games per group, so 16 fixtures at a time) and then we'll obviously carry on into the knockout phase.

So who's in?

I'm in!

Was in Germany in 2002 when they went to the finals vs Brasil.

Watched the quarterfinals Germany vs USA and wow, intense! My teacher took us to the Berlin Hard Rock Cafe in an attempt to not let us be clobbered by the citizens!

I was in Florence with my ex, watching the final at an English pub there. The table next to us was all German. They were most chastened and quiet at the end. My ex won enough money in the pools at work with a fluke draw of Brazil, coupled with a small and very early bet at Ladbrokes on them as well, for us to pay for our 10 days in Pisa and Florence. :D

:ot: Oh my gosh, Florence is nuts. I'd been to Germany as a high schooler and then obviously many, many times to the UK, so I sort of considered myself to be somewhat worldly in the ways of European travel. I visited my sister who was studying abroad there on a side trip after seeing David...and she saved my neck quite a few times as I was pushed off the one-person sidewalk into the street constantly and into all the cars and motorcycles. Somewhat terrifying!

Beautiful city though.

Can non-UK people participate?

Most certainly - this is the "world" cup after all. ;) All nationalities are most welcome in the regular compo too, although you'd have to know a bit about English domestic club football there.

Four new faces - excellent. Welcome, guys.

I've been a little out of the loop on Premier League stuff since I left in 2007, but I will spend the summer grilling Robin on what I need to know in terms of domestic football. She and I have had at least one conversation on who's hot in this year's England squad, but I have a feeling that the results of that competition will have little to no effect on England's chances this year.

Tbf, Maven, it's not just the Premiership stuff you need to know about - we predict the scores for teams in the Championship and League 1 as well.

Familiarity with nicknames may help too. A little test (no googling or asking RKL!):

Saints

Blades

Toon

Toffees

Citeh

Pool

Hammers

Owls

Canaries

Pompey

Brum

That'll do for starters. ;)
