Cookbooks and Calendars

  1. 1. If The Sultan's Kitchen is re-released (with updated pictures and also new recipes), would you purchase one (there are over 200 recipes)

    • Yes, count me in! 1 please!
    • Yes, count me in! And I would buy multiple copies to send as gifts to friends and family!
    • Maybe. I want to hear feedback from the people who purchased it the first time before I make my decision.
    • No, count me out!
  2. 2. Would you purchase a calendar that showcases pictures submitted by us of our SO's countries at $19.95 each plus shipping?

    • Yes, count me in! 1 please! (my spouses country only)

I find it interesting that every time I decide to come back to VJ, an opportunity arrises for me to do something cool to share with you all. This time, while I was editing the original Sultan's Kitchen Cookbook, I found an opportunity to create calendars. I think it would be really cool to have a calendar full of awesome pictures of MENA taken by my friends. I'd be happy with either an "all Jordan" calendar, a collage of all of our SO's contries for each month, or a different country pic for each month. I'd do polls on the pix and let you all decide which pictures would make the calendar. It would be all done via mena members!

Plz let me know what you think of this idea.

I'm still editing the original Sultan's Kitchen Cookbook. It's currently at 222 pages with over 200 recipes from the sultan's kitchen thread here in mena. I need at least 50 orders to be able to make them affordable to everybody. If I can get 50 orders, they'll be $40.00 each. If I can get orders for 100 books, they'll be $30.00 each (this is basically the cost for me to have the books printed and it covers all shipping.)

Payment is requested ahead of time as I have to order them all at once and money is super tight at my house.

PayPal and Money orders are our prefered methods of payment.

Please feel free to ask any questions.

I'm in! I love the idea of a calendar and I for sure want a Sultan Kitchen Cookbook (been wanting one for a while). How many peeps end up getting the book, of course $30 is better then $40, but either way...I'd be happy with this book.

it's not too late to submit recipes. I'm in the process of editing the original book. The price increased from 27 dollars to 30 dollars (if I can at least order 100 books). The increase is due to adding more recipes and adding pictures. The first time I ended up losing money because I didn't charge enough to cover the full cost of shipping. It was my fault which is why I never asked anybody for more money.

Those of you who have pictures of any of these dishes are WELCOMED to send them to me so I can have original pictures for the cookbook. It's highly encouraged, actually. The new one will be by far better than the original (imho).

The increase is about 30 so far. I am not sure if I'm gonna use all of the new ones or not...but my plan is to try to if at all possible.

If I do the calendars, they will be for 2011.

For those of you who want them, you can email me (amal.cpht@yahoo.com) your favorite landscape pictures of your visit to your SO's country. Please provide the country, location, and the date. If we do just 1 scene per month, I will hold polls for all of you to choose the picture you think would work best.

Hey Kenza! Good to see you. :) I am starting really early this year in order to try to have them ready for ordering by October(ish) (or early enough to send them as Christmas/Holiday gifts) The first time i did this, the idea came to me so late in the year that I ended up missing the holidays by like 1 week. This time, I'm ready!

I know there are more people in this forum. Get them here to take part in the poll so I can get a better idea of what people are thinking. If I only have 10 orders...I'm in trouble.

Does anybody have any experience in these kinds of things and maybe have an idea of where I can go to bring in more potential customers to purchase the books? I would love to be able to sell them to the public and make enough money to donate a substantial amount to a local Islamic school or to the Islamic women's shelter down here. I just don't have enough connections to make it happen. I'd even be willing to take on a partner if they know how to get the orders coming in.

Great idea, Amal!! :)

Count me in for a recipe book! I'll post a couple of Middle-Eastern recipes I tried since I got to the US and are kids-friendly as well!

About where to get potential customers..how about trying Amazon or e-bay?

How about having building your own website/blog and refer to friends and friends of friends?
