Didn't they ask you to sign it in front of them and tell you how. At my ceremony we were told to sign it the same as on the photograph and they watched while we did it.

What to expect at the POE - WIKI entry

So, i'll just sign it like how i signed in my photograph. The IO watched how i signed on my photograph

Wife was just handed her certificate, I checked it over for errors, wife was too excited, and we left. A lot like receiving your US passport via the mail, you sign it at home. Both want you to sign it exactly the way your name is printed, but in cursive hand writing, says that on either the certificate or your passport.

I don't know if she practiced her new single word signature before we got married or stayed up late at night developing it. Very artistic and she is proud of it, but she wanted to sign both her certificate and passport that way. Just said, it doesn't say that, and what if you are denied entry because some guy doesn't like the fact you didn't sign it the way you were told to sign it. So I made her practice signing her three distinctive first, middle, and last name exactly the way it was printed on her certificate and passport.

Could or could not be a problem, she argued that she signs checks and credit card statements with her own signature, I said that is not a problem, doesn't say how to sign it. Could even get by with an "X" for all I know.
