bringing Mom in US

Hi ,

My husband wants my Mom to go to US for vocation and he wants to fly my mom with me. The reason why he wants my mom in US because we are going to have a wedding reception and he wants My mom to be there.

My question is How to start this process and how long it takes ? Do you guys have a idea? Im lost.

She could apply for a visitor visa for purpose of attending your wedding.

Your mom can apply for a tourist visa.

It will only be granted if she can show SIGNIFICANT TIES to the Philippines that would COMPEL HER TO RETURN at the end of her stay.

Not much you/your husband can do apart from wriitng a well-worded letter of invitation.

I-130s are for immediate relatives of USC. Your mom doesn't qualify as one.

Your mom needs to be qualify on her own. Nothing you guys can do.

She will need to show that she has enough social, economic ties to Philippines to convince the CO that she will not overstay her welcome.

It's a 50-50 chance that she will be approved or denied.

if you would like her to fly w/you/make it to your wedding you have to start early because visas for tourist can take 1-3 months to apply for (from preparation of docs to interview.

your mom will apply for a tourist visa and use the 156 and 157 forms, and prepare docs that will show she has strong ties/reasons to go back to the phils (such as employment/work, children, husband, properties etc).

The presumption in the law is that every visitor visa applicant is an intending immigrant. Therefore, applicants for visitor visas must overcome this presumption by demonstrating that:

The purpose of their trip is to enter the U.S. for business, pleasure, or medical treatment;

That they plan to remain for a specific, limited period;

Evidence of funds to cover expenses in the United States;

Evidence of compelling social and economic ties abroad; and

That they have a residence outside the U.S. as well as other binding ties that will insure their return abroad at the end of the visit.

Required Documentation

Each applicant for a visitor visa must submit these forms and documentation as explained below:

An application, Nonimmigrant Visa Application, Form DS-156, completed and signed. The DS-156 must be the March 2006 date, electronic "e-form application." Select Nonimmigrant Visa Application Form DS-156 to access the electronic version of the DS-156. Important Notice: At certain U.S. Embassies and Consulates abroad, nonimmigrant visa applicants are now required to apply visa using the new DS-160 Online Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application, instead of the nonimmigrant application forms DS-156, 157, 158, and other related forms. A Supplemental Nonimmigrant Visa Application, Form DS-157 provides additional information about your travel plans. Submission of this completed form is required for all male applicants between 16-45 years of age. It is also required for all applicants from state sponsors of terrorism age 16 and over, irrespective of gender, without exception. Four countries are now designated as state sponsors of terrorism, including Cuba, Syria, Sudan, and Iran. Select Special Processing Procedures to learn more. You should know that a consular officer may require any nonimmigrant visa applicant to complete Form, DS-157.

A passport valid for travel to the United States and with a validity date at least six months beyond the applicant's intended period of stay in the United States (unless country-specific agreements provide exemptions). What are the Required Visa Fees?

Nonimmigrant visa application processing fee - For current fees for Department of State government services select Fees. You will need to provide a receipt showing the visa application processing fee has been paid, when you come for your visa interview.

Applicants must demonstrate that they are properly classifiable as visitors under U.S. law by:

Evidence which shows the purpose of the trip, intent to depart the United States, and arrangements made to cover the costs of the trip may be provided. It is impossible to specify the exact form the documentation should take since applicants' circumstances vary greatly.

Those applicants who do not have sufficient funds to support themselves while in the U.S. must present convincing evidence that an interested person will provide support.

Depending on individual circumstances, applicants may provide other documentation substantiating the trip's purpose and specifying the nature of binding obligations, such as family ties or employment, which would compel their return abroad.
