Any early March POE-er's get SSN yet with going to SSA office?

Hi, quite frustrated right now as my wife doesn't have her SS card yet. I'm wondering if anyone here that POE'd in early March has received their social security card yet...? without actually going to the ssa office?

I'm going with my wife tomorrow but it's sucks as she has to take a day off to do it.

My wife received her green card a week ago, I thought that was supposed to come 2nd, and much later on.

Will us going down and filing mess up a currently existing SSN in process possibly?

I POE'd a day before you and haven't seen my SSN yet. As such, I'm going to go down to the SSA office tomorrow and go through the motions THAT way. I've given them twelve business days...and with tax deadline coming up in two and a half weeks, I want to make sure I've got my SSN for that.

It's annoying that checking the SSN box is so hit and miss (more miss than hit, it seems), but c'est la vie. Very few aspects of the immigration process go smoothly!

Married: 07-03-09

I-130 filed: 08-11-09

NOA1: 09-04-09

NOA2: 10-01-09

NVC received: 10-14-09

Opted In to Electronic Processing: 10-19-09

Case complete @ NVC: 11-13-09

Interview assigned: 01-22-10 (70 days between case complete and interview assignment)

Medical in Vancouver: 01-28-10

Interview @ Montreal: 03-05-10 -- APPROVED!

POE @ Blaine (Pacific Highway): 03-10-10

http://www.ssa.gov/online/ss-5.pdf download and fill it out prior to going. Odds are if you haven't received it yet, your not going to! They will check to see if you have been issued one, so no, it won't wreck anything!! Ensure you take ur passport as well.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I POEd around the same time and I have received bupkas. Got my welcome to the USA letter last week. We're going to the SSN office on Friday. I am annoyed that they get us to 'check a box' and then let us wait like morons for nothing. Just take away that box/option at least this way we know we're on our own from the get go.

Whatever I suppose.

November 26, 2011 to Vermont station November 30, 2011 received NOA1December 16, 2011 received biometrics appointment.

January 04, 2012 Biometrics

September 2, 2012, RFE Received.

September 22, 2012 RFE responded to

October 15, 2012 ROC approved, 10 Green card on its way.

I got mine without going to the office. Had to go into the office for my kids and still waiting on theres.

POED March 6 and got SSN the 17.

i just took the already filled out SSN form and passport. Can't hurt to take ur birth cert, not sure what that proves for you, might be good for kids, but not for adults!

Forgot to mention the filled out forms. The birth certificate was used for my kids an adult may not need it.

Just to let you know that even adults are to have their birth certificates along with passports. It's posted all over the office and on their website that both are needed. I checked off the box to get my SSN but it was two years ago and assumed that I wouldn't get them anyways, so the same day that I POE'd, I went directly to SSO to apply for it and received it within 2 weeks.

Sent I130 to Chicago - March 1, 2008

NOA 1- April, 2008

Transferred to California - April, 2008

NOA 2 - March 13, 2009 (lost for awhile)

NVC case number given - March 30, 2009

NVC case complete - April 25, 2009

Email for interview - July 3, 2009

Interview - August 12, 2009 DENIED!!

Yeah, you and biglos from what I recall. Which is great but... they should do all or none not this random b.s. -- just my Very Humble opinion. What's the deal with doing some and not others? It's not a big deal really to get it, I suppose but I just HATE with a passion, people/companies/etc saying yep, we do that/will do that and then they don't. Just take the damn box OFF the form then and let us know right off the bat that we're responsible for getting it.
