When to stop the K3?

I was happy to see that I finally got something for my $170 with our K3 approval this morning, but I am really looking forward to the CR-1 visa.

We are already at the NVC and things are going smoothly there.

So when does someone have to stop the K3 to keep the CR-1 available? I have a feeling that the K3 will be at the embassy long before the CR-1 gets there.

Do we just let it ride and ignore it once it gets to the embassy? Do we go to the interview and get the visa and then go back and get the CR-1?

I want to keep as many options open as possible, but ultimately I do not want to do any harm to the CR-1.

The CR-1 will still go through even through you have a K3 going through. If you get the K3 and you arrive in the US, you then have two choices to get permenent resident status:

1) You can let the CR-1 go through and then go back to your home country to get the CR-1

2) You can file an I-485 at the CHiacgo Lockbox and get your GC at the local DO. If you do this, you have to let the NVC know that you are doing this route so they can forward your I-130 back to USCIS.

Now, you have a pleasant dilemma. Your K-3 will stay at the NVC only for around 2 weeks, then it will forwarded to the US Embassy whereas your CR-1 process could take about a month from now to be complete before NVC will forward it to the Embassy. For now, you can continue the both processes and after 2-3 weeks, you will have a better idea about which route will be worth to pursue.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

There is also a little bit of leeway if the I-129F reaches the consulate prior to your I-130 case being completed at NVC. You can slow things up with the K-3 a little to give the other time to catch up. Even if you have an interview scheduled for the K-3, the I-130 will over-ride it if it reaches the consulate prior to the K-3 interview.
