How expensive can it be to buy there and does it really have to be the best quality? there are good pc stores in the philippines if you think about how much it will cost to buy here and then ship.

http://www.pcx.com.ph/index.php/others/laptops.html?p=3, this is a pc store in the phils and you can buy a notebook for as low as $250.

Exactly! You buy a badazz laptop, ship it there, she turns it on - taps into the net and runs at a blistering 56k right up until the power drops to 56 volts then goes off for a week.

Dear fellow group members,

I am trying to get a very small laptop to my wife in the Philippines. Basically, her PC died shortly after I left, it is not repairable. This comes as no surprise, it was acting up for a while.

We have a very young son - he will be one year old in April - and he and I really need to interact over the webcam and voice. I was there for the past six months, until about 3 weeks ago.

I know I could send her money for a laptop there, but they are overpriced, and not very good, for the money. I've priced them quite recently there. Money is also really tight for me right now. :-(

This laptop will be tiny - most likely a netbook - and will weight about 3 pounds.

I can arrange to have someone meet you in Manila, Cebu, or Leyte (my wife and child are in Eastern Samar, but we have family all over).

I am in Northern California at the moment, but I could ship the laptop to anywhere in the states.

If anyone is going to the Philippines in the next month or even two, and could do this, it would be greatly appreciated. I could return the favor at some point, or even manage to give you a bit of cash at this point. Alternately, if you need any advice or information about various places in the Philippines, recommendations of places to stay in different areas, etc., perhaps I could help. I also can build desktop computer systems, and could barter my labor in doing so for you. I am open to other suggestions as well.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Rhein

Not all laptops are expensive in the Philippines. You can just send money to your wife to buy a laptop. I bought a netbook (very small laptop) in 2008 called "Deep Blue H1" worth Php9,999.00  Maybe it's even cheaper now. ;)

Here's the link: http://ilikeblue.net/products/umpc.htm.

Hope that helps! :)
