We do not have to send in our 751 until November, however, I have a question about the name to be used.

All my signatures on forms, cards, etc I use qaia however legal name on ss card, 2yr green card is maribel, passport is maribel as well but in maiden name of course. Question is when we file for ROC, can I put down the name as qaia and under other names used as maribel? As I said all signatures are signed in qaia and even have an ID or 2 under qaia as that is the name I go by and use and people know me as.

Any suggestions, tips would be appreciated. Thank you

You need to go by your legal name.

Have you ever used on legal forms qaia as your legal name? You need to provide them with the legal name as it appears on your GC, DL, passport, etc...

qaia could be your nickname and you don't need to disclose it to them as long as you never used it as your legal name filling out forms and stuff.

Hope this helps.

ok thanks for the info. I was trying to bypass the fees and stuff hence thought this may be a way to do it, otherwise, I was told that at Naturalization they ask you if you want to change your name (for free, 1 time deal) so I figure I would do it then

Use the legal name as in the social security card.

However, if you are looking to change your name, you can do it while ROC and don't have to wait until Citizenship.

can you be more specific? are you referring to filing forms/paying fees? do I do it prior to filing, etc. what forms....what does it entail?

You've lost me, OP!

As far as USCIS is concerned, at this juncture - Maribel is your legal name. That's what's on your 2 year green card. . It also seems that Maribel is your legal name in other aspects (SS card and other forms of ID). As such, qaia would fall under the 'other names used' category when filling out forms for USCIS.

Are you saying you want to change it so that qaia will be what is on your 10 year green card? If so, you would have to show them a legal reason for that change - which I believe you would have to go to court to do. You can't just change your legal name because you want to - that change has to be documented.

Have no idea what you mean by avoiding fees. Avoiding whose fees - USCIS?
