I can adapt to change and I don't think I have a choice, but has anyone noticed things are somewhat slower. I have a cable modem, and now its like I have d i a l u p.

They're still working on migrating a lot of things, mostly PMs. This is putting a lot of strain on the server, so it'll probably be slow throughout Monday/Tuesday and will then get much better.

most of the talk was in the Site discussion board... but I think there was mention of it in Off Topic too...

It has been primarily on the Site Discussion Thread instead of any of the actual immigration forums. There have been two test runs of the new format with VJ members acting as guinea pigs. You might want to go to that forum - it is at the bottom of the page - and just read over if you are interested. The 'migration' is from an older version of the hosting software to a newer version of the hosting software. There are a number of differences in how the software operates so it has been a very big migration with a lot of work involved for Captain Ewok, the site administrator. While much of the transfer could happen automatically, there was still a lot of the site that had to be 'custom' transferred in order to maintain all of the proper links and such.

Once the transfer is complete - there is still work to do over the next few days - you should notice a big improvement in speed. Basically, you should be able to do the same things you did before but they might be in different parts of the page or have a slightly different method which should become easier to figure out once everything is done.

Currently, the PM function is turned off because Captain Ewok is transferring the posts from there to the new site - and there are a lot of them!

If you have any problems, or any concerns now is a good time to raise them and see if something can be done about it. There have been 'tweaks' going all all day based on feedback from VJ members and they will continue.

If it wasn't "broke", I don't understand why they "fixed" it. :) The most annoying thing for me is the outlines, or frames are gone. It was easier on the eyes before. The pinned topics aren't separated either like they were before, well, distinctly separated.

I was one of the beta testers for the site, and it was initially a slightly different color scheme, but was ultimately changed after some basic consensus. One thing I'd like to see is the inclusion of different skins so that people can adjust their colors to their preference.

I DO think that the amount of features with this software is far superior to the old place. Plus, in a month you won't even remember what the old place looked like. Trust me! I've been through forum software changes before, and it always automatically results in some complaints that last for a few days, then completely disappear as people get used to the new look.

Remember that the content is the same, and that's the most important thing! One of the cool features that you haven't been able to see yet is how PMs work. It's pretty cool...plus you'll be able to see the text of the PM in the body of the notification email, which I always find to be VERY convenient. Lots of other things you'll start to notice as well. Be sure to run it through it's paces -- you're not going to break it. :)
