Canadian medical vision test

Another of my dumb questions... but my fiance has an old prescription for his glasses. He can see... just not super well? He doesn't drive, so that isn't a worry. He can use his computer fine, works fine, has a daily headache, has a new prescription which is a lot stronger, we just can't afford it right now. I'm not sure he could pass a strict eye exam. We absolutely don't have money for new lenses before his medical. Could anyone share how tough the test is?

Apologies for this question. Everything went so fast ahead of schedule that we might lose everything now because we didn't have the expected time to save. It will be close. The glasses are just one of our worries. Thanks...

you need to read the reviews and uscis guidelines on what the medical is..i'ts not a real medical. they just want to make sure you dont have any communicable diseses etc.

hate to say this to ya but alot of your questions are easily answered by looking at most of the posts on the forums btw. some ppl get easily offended at repeating the same stuff lol

I did read the guidelines and saw that there was a vision test. It didn't state how serious or minor this test is. I read reviews from the Vancouver section too, saw nothing about this. I also searched and maybe it was the wrong terms, but nothing. I would rather ask and be safe instead of sorry. If someone doesn't like my questions, they are free to flame or ignore me.

I had an eye test for my medical (long time ago in Calgary). The eye test was a total after thought. They almost forgot until I asked about it.

I didn't bring my glasses with me, and it was fine. They just have you read the eye chart on the wall. Nothing extensive.

Ask all the questions you want, its free!! Search feature on VJ is so-so. If you not getting many responses, its most likely because it is a common question. and really its the same questions over and over again, lol Most just ask away. it is one huge cycle, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

He can explain that he needs to get his new prescription filled and hopes to be able to afford it soon. It is not going to be a problem with his medical, however. The medical is to identify conditions and illnesses which may have a negative impact upon the health and well-being of the American public. Being near or far-sighted isn't a problem. It won't even raise an eyebrow in the results.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Thank you all. Glad to hear this wont be an issue. Just trying to be as thorough as possible. Better to ask while we still can! :)

When's the interview and medical? Just curious. . . .

I went to Dr. Seiden in Toronto and never had to take an eye test. So, either some of the doctors give eye tests and others do not, or the doctors give out eye tests at random. I'm guessing you'll be using the doctor in Vancouver? Hopefully someone with Vancouver specific experience will give you a more definitive answer, because in my experience my poor vision never came up... And trust me, I would have failed

Not scheduled yet. We still have a bit of time... the NOA-2 was approved for the K1 on March 4th. Thats why I'm asking these things now, so we can try and squeeeeeze them in if we have to (financially). I'm hoping the medical and interview aren't until like May. We want to get married July 22nd, although thats hard to plan for when you don't know if you'll be approved.

I did not have an eye test in Toronto either. I do wear glasses but they did not ask me anything about my prescription. Good luck!

Montreal Medisys requires you to bring your glasses and they do a vision test, they have you read a chart without your classes from across the room, starting with the smallest row that you can see, ask you to read a couple of the other rows then tell you to put your glasses on and read the smallest row you can see. They tell you your vision status without your glasses on and ask you if you are aware of your sight? don't know why cus obviously you are if you have glasses lol Then they tell you to continue your eye care visits when you reach america and to not just stop going to eye doctors.

They didnt use any machines or any kind of crazy things, just read the line testing.
