We are preparing to file on May 5. Are there any travel restrictions after that point? In other words, do we have to wait until an extension is granted or are we free to move around during that time?

Your NOA1 for the I 751 is a extension letter - which extends your status for a year. You should take that with you when you travel.

TracyTN is correct. Just a reminder, you will get a biometrics appointment and then there is a waiting period, so moving around freely wouldn't be highly recommended unless you mean a short trip here and there. Also, if you are traveling, make sure someone is actively checking your mail since they can send you additional letters such as RFEs, or even a second biometrics appointment if the first one didn't go through well....

California Service Center seems to be processing applicants within two months. Like now, they are tracking January filers.
