Meh. I'm used to being raped for $10/month for my account in Canada, so that wouldn't be anything new. I could probably change my account type at this point, since I'm hardly using it anymore, but ah well. I certainly won't meet any minimum amount or direct deposit at this point, so we'll see what the fees come to be.

Oh, amusingly enough too, today I received something in the mail from Chase, saying they're giving people $100 just for opening a new checking account. That's it. I read the fine print. I'm not seeing a catch. Now I'm debating them again. I could SERIOUSLY use $100. lol

hmm..

Do you think it'd be worth it to take it to BoA and see if they'll match it? Cause really, the BoA advantage with scotia isn't really relevant until I get AP and can travel out of the US again. hmm...

Definitely go with Chase in that case. If you don't like it, you can always just close the account and open up a BofA account later on.

lot of the banks in the USA will give ya a $100 or more to open up an acct. Some orf them you have to make at least 3 or more transactions, keep the acct open for a certain period or use the auto bill pay feature, nothing thats too hard to do. Suntrust has a $150 offer right now I believe

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
