Ok, wow. I thought this thread was an apology? Apparently it is just a continuation of the same argument you started in the other thread. We don't need this ####### in two places. I really wish someone would close this.

The writer of the article had a very obvious point he wanted to make. He tried to make it by comparing the Canadian games to the Nazi games. There were other games he could have chosen to compare with including many held in the US which were rife with American patriotism. The writer made a deliberate choice to compare the Vancouver Olympics to the 1936 Berlin Olympics knowing that everyone reading the article would make the immediate connection to Nazi. Nazi patriotism - Canada patriotism. Nazi self-centeredness - Canada self-centeredness; Nazi- evil government and evil actions; Canada - evil government and evil actions. Yes - a very American focused article with the hidden agenda of planting anti-Canadian sentiment in a US environment that has some members looking north to view how Canada has remained successful and productive while the US economy is faltering; how Canadians get universal healthcare while the US is struggling with health care reform and the Canadian system is being held out as an example. Yep - hidden agenda all over the place. Evil Canadians - they are just like the Nazis so we need to guard ourselves against any sort of connection to anything Canadian because before you know it - like the Nazis - their evil health care and economy will take over the US - unless we stop them now.

That is what that article is about - and that is why you have run into problems by posting it here in the Canada forum. The writer isn't even subtle with his comparison - he is using a sledgehammer.

Ya, that's what I got, also, from reading the article. I got doubly p|ssed cause it's from a Texas Newspaper (albeit a transplant journalist, not one that was native born).

I think it was an 'audience' issue, you betcha - the 'audience' failed to 'get it'.

Who's loss is it, really?

or I mean - at who, at whom - was the information 'lost' ?

He's married a Canadien lass.

But - SHE brought it to HIS attention, first.

SHE laughed at the article, thinking it was funny.

I'm not one to snipe at a spouse, but come on. This is fundamentally skewed. His Wife shows him, first? His Wife laughs about it? He thinks to post it here on VJ because his Wife laughed about it ?

Perhaps Canada is better off with a laughing Canadien in Ft. Worth - I dunno, yer call.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I tried to apologize, but people are too damned ignorant and decided to keep pushing on the issue.

I have done nothing wrong, yet people's blindness towards their 'homeland' leads them astray.

That's fine. People will think what they want. It might be ignorant, but it is what it is.

I've pointed out that the article wasn't the only instance of people feeling this way (INCLUDING CANADIANS) and pointed out exactly what the article was saying about pushing Maple Leafs vs. The Olympic Rings.

Only thing I can say, is for a bunch of people racing to defend Canada blindly without taking a step back, maybe they should not have moved here in the first place if they feel so passionate.

Allie can talk about bridges all she wants, I wasn't the one burning them. I was just pointing something out that was hard for people to swallow. As they say, people choose to ignore/can't handle the truth and will see it how it fits them best.

Time to quit while you are already behind? End the pain now.

I'm the one behind? Amusing at best. I'm just sick of bloody ignorance around here because of one's patriotism. It reminds me of the idiots around here who blindly follow GW Bush into everything he said/did and the same one's with Obama now. People need to wake up and smell the roses around them and not just the ones growing out of their own butt.

Again with the "everyone else is clearly wrong, I'm clearly right" sentiment.

How many people does it take for you to realize that maybe the problem isn't with "all of us" but the one of YOU? Twenty? Fifty? 100? What is the extent?

This thread really is going nowhere though. Pretty much everything you've posted after the initial post has proven the "apology" to be insincere.

Face it...you're really not a good fit in this forum. Speaking of burnt bridges, I have a feeling no one's going to want to offer you advice or help if Vanessa comes across a snag in her visa journey. But that will be our ignorance too, no doubt.

I simply posted a ###### article. I agreed with what it said to an extent. I pointed out other sources.

I am the one being attacked for doing so and pointing out what others are saying and daring to agree with some of it.

I am the one being ATTACKED by people who took what I posted out of context as some ###### anti-Canadian sentiment.

Please, get over your damn selves already.

Yes, it is bloody ignorance on YOUR part if you fail to pay attention to what I have actually posted/said about the situation and instead choose to attack me for being anti-Canadian. I attacked no one, you all chose to attack me.

I have simply been defending myself and rightfully so.

No, it's not back handed at all.

I said what I said and I meant it. I meant no harm, meant no offense to anyone, BUT certain people still decide to attack/portray me as something I'm not/sentiments I don't have. I won't tolerate it. I won't put up with being called something I'm not/accused of being something I'm not.

I will always defend myself to the end on that, and yes i think it's damned ignorant for people to keep attacking me when all I have done is point out what the article was saying and then pointed to OTHER articles pointing out the SAME THING of nationalism/arrogance during the Olympics.

Well I don't know that the internet is serious business, but people are :)

Look Paul, what you have said, what you have posted, really has very little affect on me, i'm not angry with you, nor do I want to attack you particularily.

When you throw around terms like 'ignorant' and 'narrow minded' etc etc etc and you express that you tried to explain it in 'simple terms' (so all of us gosh darn Canadians could get it) - what did you really expect?

What you fail to understand (and I have seen it happen before in this forum) is that we are Canadians. You are not. You do not see things the way we see them and you never will. So don't try. That's my best advice for you.

That's my point though, is I even posted an article out of Montreal saying the same thing. Because I understand that it's hard for people to accept an 'outsiders' point of view.

I didn't mean the 'simple terms' for stupid anyone. I meant it as in, "I'm breaking this down so you can see what exactly he is comparing this to." - It's why I put in the same lines how it was being compared.

As I said, I'm not here to offend anyone. As I said too, I recognize arrogance when I see it. I'm a TEXAN first and foremost and a Dallas Cowboys fan. You don't get much more arrogant than that combination at all in this world ;)

Comparing Canadians to Nazis!--Dang, I missed all the drama!

That's usually directed at the Germans

Sorry, couldn't resist. I read the article. I live in Seattle. I see no real life comparisons in any way, shape, or form. In my very humble opinion, the journalist (and I use that term loosely) is the ignorant one.

Paul and Vanessa Posted Today, 01:39 AM

Allie can talk about bridges all she wants, I wasn't the one burning them.

I wasn't just talking about burning bridges. I was trying to give you some sound advice

on where your making of bad relations here in the Canadian Forum is leading you.

and what the consequences of those soured relations are going to be.

Below is my posting in which I try to advise you but it appears you still neglect to get it.

I cannot speak for others here, but with all the anti- Canada sentiment you have presented in this Canadian Forum I can tell you, I for one will not be jumping to the keyboard to answer any inquiries you present. You have burned your bridge to that advice

Yesterday, 05:17 PM Post #57

This is my last posting on this topic:

You're here in the Canadian Forum what I think making bad relations.

Somewhere along this Visa journey you may be in this same Canadian Forum inquiring

on an issue in paperwork to these same Canadians you're offending

my thoughts to you Paul, " don't burn your bridges behind you, some day they may have to be crossed again"
