Bogota Embassy K1 Interview Wait Time

I did a search on Google and found a page on VisaJourney.com with information about the Bogota embassy. It said, in part:

Approx. waiting time for interview date from when NVC sends package to Embassy:

As of May 03, 2004 the Colombia Embassy no longer allows open interview dates for K Visas. All visa applicants must be scheduled through the new computer system for an Interview. Estimated wait time 3-4 months until interview.

Does anyone know what the current wait time for a K1 interview is in Bogota? My visa petition has been sent to the embassy and we are waiting for the packet. I'm a US citizen and I've been living in Colombia for 4 months waiting for this visa. If they are going to make me wait another 4 months it may be quicker to get married and file a spousal visa DCF, but I'd rather not do that. I'm hoping this information about a 3-4 months wait is wrong. Has anyone had an K1 interview in Bogota lately?

Thanks

Steve

I had doubts like that and poking around I found the info I needed here in VJ. I did the same steps for your country:

Thanks for that link. The link says that the wait for an interview can be several weeks (not several months). I am trying to call them but their phones are busy during their 2 hour window, of course. I will try sending them an email.

I just got through to the embassy in Bogota by phone. The woman I spoke to told me that they had sent a packet to my fiancee on March 1. But she said we can also download the forms from their website and fax them in without waiting. I just went to their website and there is a page that says:

Beginning March 1, 2010, all nonimmigrant visa applicants must use the online application form DS-160

I guess that's good news for me. Maybe the process will go faster. I'm ready to get back to Big D (Dallas). Does anyone have any tips about difficulties in completing this part of the process?

hi Steve,am not sure if it is the way to get the interview, because you have to send first the pckt 3 (forms ds-230 part I & ds-2100) I suggest you write to this email IVBogota@state.gov and ask for it. The interview may take 4 to 5 weeks and you can download the forms from VJ (ds-230) and embassy website (ds-2100)

good luck!

It's all up to you on how long it takes to get an interview appointment. The NVC will send the Embassy your case and then the Embassy will send you the interview packet, BUT since the mail system in Colombia is so unorganized, you may never get this packet at all. This is when you need to go to the Embassy's web site to get the packet yourself and follow their instructions. First, make sure you know that the embassy has received your case from the NVC, call them or e-mail them to get this info. Then as soon as you have all the documents they require, send them forms DS-2100 (found in the packet) and Part I of form DS-230. You can e-mail them to the Embassy to move things faster. As soon as they receive them, they will give you a date for the interview. Again, call them or e-mail them to find out the date.

You can also find these instructions in Spanish in their website.
