Canadian marrying an American and moving to the US

Hello,

I am a CAN citizen and I am planning on marrying a US citizen this summer. We plan on filing the I-130 and additional documentation immediately afterward. I'm based in Mtl, he in LA.

My question is this: We had initially planned on him coming to Mtl, but due to an old DUI charge that is no longer a possibility (at least not until 2013). Will this cause any hiccups if I head there instead? I have not read anything stipulating otherwise, but we were unaware of how much this would affect his Canadian immigration until we spoke with a lawyer. I'd like to avoid seeing another lawyer, if at all possible.

I'm a Canadain who married an American also. You should not need to use a lawyer for this. There is a Canadian Forum.....under Regional Section and there are lots of us who post there. You'll get all kinds of help/advice.

You should certainly use a lawyer if you have a complicated case or, like us, wanted the piece of mind that we were doing everything correctly. While not necessairly 'needed' for many cases, certainly contact one if you feel like you want or need to yourself.

Not having the USC there will not be an issue, especially under the circumstances. It's not like he is simply choosing not to becuase he found something better to do. If asked then simply tell the truch. The USC having a DUI is a non-issue in an immigration situation like this
