I-94 is stapled to my passport...

Quick question while I finalize my AOS package: My I-94 is stapled to my passport and yet they want a photocopy of the back of it for I-485 etc. What should I do about this? Does removing the staple trigger any consequences as far as USCIS is concerned? It's not even stapled at the portion where it says "staple here", it's stapled right in the middle.

2010-04-27: Received I-797 Approval / Welcome to America letter for AOS

Yes... triggers the need for you to staple it back when you're done making a front/back copy of it. :P (Otherwise no.)

I, too, was worried about removing the staple to copy the back of it... especially considering that there's nothing even on the back.

But it seems everyone else did so, so I did too.

I specifically asked about this at the PoE. The border officer said that no, removing the I-94 from the passport does not damage it's integrity as a document or any such thing - they just staple it in there because it's a convenient place to put it where it won't get lost :)

When I went to photocopy mine I removed the staple very carefully, made my copies, and stapled it back through the same holes. You can't even tell it's not the original staple :)

You will never use the I-94 for anything aside from a photocopy. The AP or AOS will satisfy your traveling out of the country in the future.

My wife's was stapled at the edge, so I just flipped it over without removing the staple and copied it as best I could along with the passport page to which it was stapled. I hope that's sufficient.

They didn't even staple mine!

I don't think mine was either, I just kept it in the back of my passport so I knew where it was. After all, I wouldn't be leaving the states anyway without AP, and by then, the 1-94 would have expired. Now I'm just keeping it as a token! :P
