for those of you that have already filed this form, about how long does it take to be approved? I know cases may vary, but what is the average timeframe for this process, assuming everything is ok?

Timeline

I would think 3 months is a bit optimistic. Anything from 4 - 6 months from sending N-400 to oath ceremony. Some wait 4 - 6 weeks after the interview for the oath. Around 5 months start to finish is a good average.

It definitely varies depending on numerous factors such as location and time of filing, the backlog of cases at your local office and the particulars of individual files, just to mention few. If you look at my case - we almost hit the 6 months mark and were probably the last to get an interview of the September group. Best way to gauge you potential time-frame is to review past time lines for each month and check what's the trend for your particular local office...

Best of luck!!!

Hi Jackal1986,

Well, as for citizenship timelines...there are many variables....it can be slow, it can be fast.....

The average now to complete the US Citizenship process is about 2-6 months.....which is a big range.....

And it can change from year to year too, as a few years ago, things were a lot slower in the process...

It all boils down to: a) Interview dates...Can your local office schedule one quick enough and are you able to pass such that day.

b ) More importantly: Oath dates. You are not a US Citizen until you take the oath. Some people get their oaths as quick as the same day, while some people get their oaths days, months, weeks, months, later.....It all depends on the schedule of your local office....

For example, my citizenship process was 2 1/2 months exactly, from start to finish....which was quicker than usual due to other circumstances....Can't say that it can be as quick for others...again...depends on your local office there....

Hope this helps. Good luck on your travels and with your immigration journey too.
