Documents for the interview

Hello,

I have been away from VJ for a few months, but here I come back with my interview date, which I got this morning.

This is the good news. However, I am a little panicked regarding some documents to bring the day of the interview, especially the affidavit of support.

The documents for the I-864 and stuff have been given to the NVC in the "AOS Package" and I do not know if I have to bring them again for the interview or not. The different places where you find the info are very contradictory !

IF a sponsor filed an I-864 (Affidavit of Support) AND provided the NVC with

proof of an IRS Federal Income Tax Extension in lieu of a Federal Income Tax

Return, the applicant must bring the sponsor's most recent Federal Income Tax

Return to the visa interview.

For me it means that you have to bring the Tax Return IF you gave a Federal Tax Income Extension to the NCV instead.

= have to bring nothing

Evidence of financial support (e.g. Affidavit of Support, a notarized offer of employment, or evidence of assets)

Here for me it means you need a copy of the I-864, and/or of your own assets. Different version.

= have to bring the I-864 only and/or your own assets.

The following items are required for all visa types, except employment-based visas:

Evidence of financial support: Form 1-864, Affidavit of Support (and, if applicable, Form I-864a, Contract Between Sponsor and Household Member), and supporting documents including, but not limited to: copies of tax returns or W-2s for the past three years, a notarized letter of employment. If assets are listed in form I-864, you must provide proof of these assets (e.g. financial statements or attestation letters from a

Packet 4 (8/2008) Page 1

financial institution, and, in the case of property, an appraisal of value from a professional organization authorized to assess property value).

And here for me it means that you have to bring in EVERYTHING again, even if it has been submitted to the NVC already.

Please if anyone can help me on this it would be so welcome. my husband who is in the Air Force is currently deployed. I have the copy of the I-864 and all the pay stubs for 2009 here but not the one of the tax returns, so if they are needed we're in deep s***.

This is so totally confusing...

PS : My medical is Feb 15th and the interview is March 11th.

Please anyone who can help in this matter ?

I am very confused.

I called the NVC and they say they forwarded everything to the embassy so we dont need to bring the documents, WHILE the embassy specifications say we NEED to bring all of the I-864 related documents (see post above).

My interview is in 4 weeks so please anyone who can give advice, tell about own experience please help. This is all very, very, very confusing.

Hi Moonskin,

My wife's interview is in 2 1/2 weeks. We received an e-mail with the appointment letter and some other papers in a PDF format.

Within this letter there is a checklist of the paperwork needed with a Letter Code. The letter codes should indicate whether you need to bring them or whether the Embassy has them. To whit:

Third Page

CORRESPONDENCE INSTRUCTIONS C

IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION Y

DS-230-II F

PASSPORT Y

BIRTH CERTIFICATE O

ADOPTION F

MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE O

MARRIAGE TERMINATION F

COURT RECORDS F

FINANCIAL EVIDENCE Y

CUSTODY PAPERS F

MILITARY RECORDS F

CHINA - MAINLAND POLICE CERTIFICATE Y

MEXICO POLICE CERTIFICATE X

FEE PAYMENT $

PHOTOGRAPH Y

PETITIONER MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE F

PETITIONER BIRTH CERTIFICATE F

(Document Status descriptions are given on the next page.)

Page Four

* Document Status Description

A = Applicant must acquire this document and present it at the time of the interview.

C = Direct inquiries to your consulate / embassy

F = This form is not necessary for this application.

O = The original document has been received and accepted as meeting post requirements.

P = The police certificate must be requested by the applicant. If you have already

applied for this document, no further action is required. The issuing police authority will

send the police record directly to the appropriate US Embassy to have on hand at the time

of the interview.

T = An acceptable document has been received, but a translation is required as the

submitted document is not in English or the official language of the processing post. The

applicant must present a certified translation at the time of the interview.

U = The applicant has informed the NVC that the required document is unavailable.

X = The required document is unobtainable for this country per the Foreign Affairs

Manual.

Y = The required document has been received and accepted.

I = The required form is incomplete. Please ensure that a complete form is presented at

the interview.

S = Scanned document received. The original document must be presented at the time of

the interview.

$ = Payment received.

Granted, while some of this doesn't apply to me... or outright wrong (about the police certificates being sent to the Embassy) I would just take EVERYTHING you have (you should have made copies). Heck, I'm printing out my 2010 tax return, all my bank statements, all my paystubs, taking all the copies of every paper I sent them, printing out my pictures again, etc. JUST IN CASE. You can never have too much paperwork and you'll never know if they'll ask you to provide any further info. Always take your originals, of course.

That's my take on it.

Good luck. ;)

Hello and thanks for your reply.

I do not want to be rude or disrespectul, but it doesnt answer my question.

I received the same document as you, and twice.

My question is : do you have to bring all the documents, or not ?

See my first post : 3 different official documents, 3 different things they say we have to do.

Please, someone who does know / had the experience of it tell me what to do...

I would read again very carefully the instructions

knowing that you have to comply with them either with documents you bring or documents nvc got

I remember Part of the instructions you receive are very specific (like A O checklist)

Then other part of the instructions Paris embassy sends is not specific to IR/CR1 through US Service Centers but more or less like the DCF instructions listing all documents from A to Z petition process. that can be confusing

Each case can be slightly diffferent

personally I think the specific instructions were more or less a summary and no new documents were required but my memory can be wrong

what I remember well is that

I brought copies of documents previously sent

also the originals when copies had been provided

also more recent employment letters / irs returns as time had passed since documents sent to NVC

and passport pictures

and chronopost enveloppe

were the most recent documents necessary not sure, but the lady took them saying very well

if I remember well I also brought more recent police document or mariage certificate

but they were not needed per embassy instructions. It was just in case and because they cost little to have.

conclusion

read it carefully but with a flexible mind
