I have to admit, walking down to watch the torch go by at the end of my street was quite a thrill. Lots of people there, despite it being during working hours in a suburban neighbourhood! The Olympics are one of the few silver linings in my wait for immigration. I can't deny I'm excited to watch many events live on TV. :)

:)

It was pretty great. A few kids had a couple of hockey nets set up on the road about ten feet away from me...it was pretty neat. A camera crew came and filmed them playing. Kinda made me wish I was sixteen again. But the sheer amount of patriotism was nice to see.

The thing is, MANY Vancouverites have been complaining about the Olympics for several years. Most of the local news stories have been negative, calling the Olympics wasteful and talking about the economic burden that is going to be borne for years to come. But look...you've got outpourings of patriotism, national and local pride, not to mention a HUGE international spectacle. I've been a proponent of the Olympics from day one...and I assure you that most Vancouverites, whether they were vocal dissenters of the Olympics or not, are going to be glued to their TV sets, cheering on the nation in various sports they never followed otherwise.

The rewards for such a thing are enormous. As much as I'd love to be Stateside with my wife right now, I'm glad I get to experience it.

I wish I had Canadian media coverage of the Olympics rather than US coverage. I know Canada is going to show a lot more of the curling.

You'll probably be able to stream/watch online. I would assume CTV and CBC will offer that kind of stuff this year.
