could someone please tell me if translations of documents have to done by someone certified to translate or if they can be done by anyone who speaks and reads both languages fluently...thanks so much!!

Even if he is physically an ocean away, his love surrounds me everyday...

You are not alone tonight

Imagine me there by your side

It's so hard to be here so far away from you

I'm counting the days till

I'm finally done

I'm counting them down, yeah, one by one

It feels like forever till I return to you

But it helps me on those lonely nights

It's that one thing that keeps me alive

Knowing that you wait for me

Ever so patiently

No one else knows the feeling inside

We hang up the phone without saying goodnight

Because it's the sound of your voice that brings me home

It's never been easy to say

But it's easier when I've gone away

Knowing that you wait for me

Ever so patiently

Yeah, you're everything I've ever dreamed of having and

It's everything I need from you just knowing that you wait for me

You can find the answer by emailing the consular in the embassy the interview will be in.

My wife and I emailed Moscow and they said copies of documents and translations do not need to be notarized. Now we are confused on if she should translate her own documents, or if we should still have a professional do it.

I am still waiting for my NOA1, so until then we are in the same boat.

I think I am going to resend my email to Moscow asking more specifically if we can translate our own documents and if we need proof of authenticity.

Documents need to be translated but not notarized by someone who is certified. Mails and chat logos you can translate yourself.

I didn't translate my mails and they didn't say nothing. Everything was in hungarian.

Here is a helpful site (look below the chart): http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/reci...ocity_3585.html

From what I now understand, documents need to be either 1) original or 2) certified official.

However, the translation of these documents should probably be done by a professional, but do not need to be notarized.

You're going to need official translations by someone certified to do them for any official documents. For example, for my CR-1 visa, I had official translations for:

1.) Our marriage certificate

2.) Her birth certificate

3.) My Iranian birth certificate

4.) A joint bank account

In retrospect, I did not need to get my birth certificate translated, but hers was necessary. I'm not sure what the requirements are for K-1 visas but if he has ANY official documentation that must be filed (birth certificate, divorce decree, etc.) you'll want an official translation.

usually, and at a minimum, the translator person has an attestation statement somewhere in the translated document, with HIS/HER signature. not need to be notarized.

But hei - ask the embassy IV staff what they want, exactly (or maybe it's already there on some DOS web portal for 'that' embassy ? )

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
