My wife to be's cough... medical ?

My wife to be always has a little cough in the morning. Nothing that bothers her too much. I notice that her mom and her sister also have that once and a while.

I ask her if it her cough ever goes away completely and she said no just a little every morning. I don't know what the cause of that is. I know she had typhoid as a child but that was cleared up with medicine.

Should I be concerned about her passing medical ?

What exactly are they looking for with the xray and sputum test ?

I want to send her to the local doctor now just for a checkup though I have no idea what the cost might be. She never had a physical before.

Should I have her do a complete physical now and would that help her to have clean health before her medical comes around in the next 2-3 months ?

Or should I just send her to the doctor to treat her cough ?

Any idea what the costs might be if I send her to the local hospital for physical or treatment ? She lives in a remote province but they do have a local hospital.

She always seems very healthy to me and not sickly at all.

Thanks very much for helpful suggestions. :)

just to be on the safe side I had pam go to the doctor and get checked even go the skin TB shot and It cost about $15 american for everything.....My opinion do it!!! When Pam went to St Lukes this week I was not stressed or worried at all and it also made it easier for her!!! Good luck.

what would I do without the love you give me.

Agree with Charlie. The cost is minimal and it gives you (both) a heads up for potential problems or peace of mind going into the exam.

St. Lukes has a reputation of being sticklers. Very very particular and if they see anything "suspicious" in the x-ray, no matter how small, a sputum exam will be required. My wife is very healthy, but, since there was a suspicious (tiny tiny tiny) scar in her lung, the sputum exam was ordered. 3 consecutive days of spitting in a cup and 2 months waiting for the culture to be cleared (and no tb btw). There were/are about 150-200 other applicants doing the same every week.

Do your pre-exam, so you can know what to expect.

Oh, and, we did a pre-exam exam and the doctor told us, "no problem. all clean!". Lesson learned?- Talk (directly) to the radiologist, not just the doc. We later took our x-ray back to the radiologist and asked...WTH? He said, "yes, I can see some very small scar tissue in the right upper lobe."

Good luck!

well, no cough is normal and if and her mother has it every morning it definitely needs to be checked.

it will cost a 1-2 check up fees and a cough syrup probably, what i mean is it won't be very expensive

and if you want no delays caused by medical issues when her exam time comes, it's always better to be ahead (treat what needs to be treated)

good luck and god bless!

I was worried with this same thing the last time I went for medical exam. I can easily get cough and it always takes time before it gets better (I am having cough for already a month now) :D. I had cough when I went to medical and the result was clean. Having cough will not determine if she's clean or not. As long as her chest x-ray is clean, then she will be fine.

PPD test is good, but some says it's not accurate. Having x-ray might be better but make sure the radiologist will check thoroughly for any possible problem. I heard St. Lukes are very good in finding dollar marks in your chest, I mean scars on your lungs. :D

Good luck!

Thanks very much for your replies I appreciate it very much.

Does anyone know what a bottle of cough syrup costs from the drugstore in Phil ? Like 50p ?

Just wondering. Maybe that's something she can get in the meantime until we have a doctors appointment.

thanks again for the comments. :)
