Hi everyone,

Question - File I-130 as a permanent resident and on becoming a citizen, is it possible to change same petition from one filed by a permanent resident to US citizen filed petition status?

Thanks!!

the answer is yes you need to call USCIS and /or NVC in any changes of your status, if you are a US citizen your priority date will become current and the visa will immediately available, 201 (B) INA spouse of US citizen

Thank you... One of my friends recently got married, but she didn't know whether she should start the process with USCIS as the wait for green card holders is around 2.5 years at USCIS (she will start her citizenship process around May or so). I wasn't sure if USCIS would change the status of the petition filed orginally as a green card holder. Is there any place I can verify this information?

Thanks!!

She could file the I-130 now and at least get the NOA1 and then update the status once she becomes a citizen - this should speed up the process for her.
