Touching your file is just that - someone handled your petition. They could have moved it, counted it, filed it, stored it somewhere or they could have transferred it from file cabinet A to file cabinet B because of a leaky pipe.

Touches mean very little, don't put too much weight behind it.

Good luck

Wow, only one week to receive the hard copy - thats fast (ours took two weeks to receive). What is the date on the hard copy? My assumption is that the touch on 1/27 was when it was actually received into the "system". When they receive in the mail is one thing, one they actually log it into the "system" is another.

Next step NOA2. Ours was almost exactly three months. Best Wishes!

6/15/2009 Filed I-129F

12/15/2009 Interview (HCMC, VN)

3/31/2010 MARRIED !!!

11/20/2010 Filed I-485

12/23/2010 Biometrics (Buffalo, NY)

12/31/2010 I-485 Transfered to CSC

Previously (in 2004) you had to register at the USCIS web-site for email contact to know it was touched. If I remember correctly, you could only do that after receiving a hardcopy of NOA1 and entering it at the USCIS site.

How do you see the status online when you do not know your file number (A number)?

Where online?

What do you use to look, last name, etc...???

Thanks

You'll get your case number (EAC is VSC cases, WAC is CSC cases) when they cash your check (it will be on the back of your check) or when you receive your NOA1 form in the mail.

Go to the link, enter the case number (no dashes) and you'll see the activity on your petition. You can also sigh up for email or tex message updates regarding your case.,

Let me know if you have any more questions.

I am also an old timer going back to 02 and 04..As far as I see it you can't see anything unless you have an A # If you sent your paymeny in with a check for you petition then contact your bank for a scan of the back of the check and you will see a # starting with EAC followed with 10 numbers. This is your file/case number..

It's not an "A number" it's either an EAC or WAC depending on where you file (Vermont or California). Once you receive this number you'll be able to log onto USCIS site and set-up an account.
