Updates :-

The 2006 and 2008 African Champions are en route to a historical third title as they play Ghana in the final on Sunday after the Black Stars downed Nigeria 1-0.

Egypt also avenged their 1-0 defeat in the decider of the World Cup qualifiers as Cairo erupted in ecstasy following the final whistle.

It will be the eighth final played by the Pharaohs, setting a new African record.

But there was also bad news for Egypt as key defender Mahmoud Fathallah collected a second yellow card and will serve an automatic one-game suspension in the final.

Striker Emad Meteb also left the pitch with an injury.

Cautious Start

The game witnessed a cautious start from both sides, with Egypt looking more dangerous thanks to darting runs from full-back Ahmed Al-Muhammadi.

The ENPPI man sent two deft crosses in the first six minutes, but both Meteb and Zidan failed to connect.

Algerian keeper Faouzi Chaouchi blocked the first chance in the 25th minute, palming away a neat Meteb shot from the edge of the area, following a smart pass from Zidan.

Egypt opened the scoring in the 37th minute when left-back Sayed Moawad sent a long pass to Meteb, who was downed by Rafik Halliche inside the box.

Halliche, who was already cautioned before for a harsh challenge, received his second booking to be ejected.

Abd-Rabou converted the spot-kick home amid objection from Chaouchi, who protested the Egyptian's trick while shooting.

Chaouchi tried to hit the referee for allowing the goal and only received a caution for this.

Meteb Out

Meteb, who scored twice in the tournament, limped off the pitch in the 51st minute and Hossam Ghaly was introduced.

Eight minutes later, Moawad went one-on-one with the keeper but shot wide.

But Zidan didn't miss from the edge of the area in the 65th minute, when he sent a screaming left-footer after rounding his challenger.

Nazer Belhaj of Algeria was the second player to receive his marching orders, after a violent challenge on Al-Muhammadi.

Captain Ahmed Hassan, who scored three times in the tournament so far, failed to widen the gap in the 77th minute, steering the ball out from inside the area.

Three minutes later, substitute Mohamed Abdul-Shafi made it three from a tight angle after being set-up by the sparkling Zidan.

The Zamalek left-back dinked a first-timer past keeper Chaouchi, who was advancing in anticipation of the cross.

Chaouchi then was cautioned again and then dismissed, after a reckless challenge on Geddo, who replaced defender Mahmoud Fathallah.

Geddo, who is playing his first tournament for Egypt, put the icing on the cake in the 92nd minute, as he pinned the ball from under substitute keeper Mohamed Zemmamouche.

Super substitute Geddo is now the top scorer of the tournament with four goals. Surprisingly, he never started for the Pharaohs so far.

 That made me laugh.

Anyway, go Saints! Who dat!

Ok, sorry yall! :ot2:

hahahaha my thoughts exactly! I can't wait to see the saints play the colts. I lived in New orleans until I got married in 2002 and it still feels like a dream that the Saints are going to the superbowl. My son wore a Drew brees jersey to school after they beat the Vikings. I'm surprised he didn't get beat up.

Anyway, Egypt won because they played a better cleaner game. Nothing else to it. I don't see how this relates to the World Cup though. Algeria is going to world cup because they won which means they deserve to be there. Egypt is moving forward in AFCON because they wont which means they deserve to be there. Too much boohooooing on both sides.

I from New Orleans but in TX now. Watched last week's game at a N.O. themed bar. It's packed for the saints games with New Orleans natives. I think I aged 10 years watching that last game but the end was worth it!!! The place went nuts when the Saints won. People were crying, too! Gosh, I'm excited and nervous about the Superbowl!

Sorry again. Didn't mean to highjack your thread Mr. Guy!
