Hello everyone! this is Amanda (the Canadian, Windsor Ont. here)

I was just wondering if anyone knows or has had some of these same issues when it comes to passing the medical. I am 26 years old, I have a muscle problem where i have very weak muscles. they have done a biospy on them but still dont know exactly what i have. I also have sleep apenia where i breathe very shallowly and sometimes even stop breathing altogether, so i am on a Bipap machine at night. I have scholiosis (sorry not sure how to spell it) had my spine fused and bars put in/removed. I am animic and am on iron pills to help with that. lol i know its a long list of medical problems. I was just wondering if any of these things will be reason for me to fail my medical exam. this is the only part i am really nervous about and its making sleep at night aweful. well i am nervous about the blood test cause i am scared of needles and have very tiny veins. I have almost passed out a couple times when having to have blood tests. Any info or thoughts on this concern would be really helpful for me.

ohh yeah and does anyone know if you have to have the flu and h1n1 shots for the immuization part?? sorry i worry alot and i know my medical wont be for a while but i'd like to know now if i should really worry or not. this stress is horrible!! lol i'm sure you all know how i feel tho

No, your medical conditions are not going to be a problem. I could see the Consulate asking perhaps if you can be added to your husbands insurance quickly given some of your issues, but no...you're not going to "fail" your medical because of these things at all. Don't worry. Lots of people as well are afraid of needles, and blood work and some, like you, may even faint. Have someone with you though when you're having your needles and you should be okay. What would you need blood work done for? Are you thinking of perhaps getting a titre test done? I don't think the flu shot is something on the medical list, but when it's time for you to start thinking about what you need to have done, their may even be an updated list by then, so I'd wait until it's almost time to get your vaccinations to see what may be on the list.

I am in agreement with Carla. Your conditions don't fall under the Medical Grounds of Inadmissibility. (See also Health-Related Grounds of Inadmissibility for a more detailed view.)

Here is what will happen at The Medical.

Make sure you are well hydrated (i.e. drink lots of water) to get your veins pumped up for the bloodwork.

Good luck!

You should be fine for the flu shot; only required for those over 50.

The link Krikit provided is excellent. I found it very useful as I was preparing for my medical.

Good luck.

I agree with the medical questions. Sickle Cell did not hinder our applications.

I'm also a fainter when it comes to needles and bloodwork. I brought a bottle of orange juice with me, which they had no problem with at all. I also warned both the doctor and nurse that I tend to faint in such situations, so they had me lay down when they did the bloodwork, and had me rest a couple of minutes before getting up.

That was in Toronto. I actually found them to be rather accommodating for how I felt, which was a definite change from what I'm used to.
