Damn. Got a call from the embassy this morning.

ALL INTERVIEWS ON January 27th interview are cancelled.

I was counting on being able to fly on Wednesday Feb 3rd (in time for my birthday, Feb 4th), and in time for my fiance's company party (Feb 6th), so that I could meet lots of her friends and colleagues.

Hugely devastated. I am now scheduled for Wednesday Feb 3rd.

Packet 3 Sent : 2009-10

Packet 4 Received : 2010-01-06

Interview Date : 2010-02-03

Interview Result : Disastrous.

Only realised on the day that a full birth certificate was needed. My passport was too damaged, in the opinion of the interviewing officer (although it wasn't really that damaged at all!). Was told I needed to supply an I-134, completed by my fiancee (even though the embassy guidance notes specifically advises that K-1 applicants do not have to do this). Was told that I needed to supply my fiancee's tax return paperwork for year ending 2008 (even though K-1 applicants are not advised of this at all prior to interview!)

Second Interview

(If Required):

Second Interview Result:

Visa Received : 2010-02-24

US Entry : 2010-02-25

Marriage : 2010-03-22

Comments : Married at Harris County Courthouse on Clay Road by Judge William Yeoman. Then a lovely lunch at Bistro Alex, off Sam Houston Tollway, Houston, TX! Yummy!

Processing

Estimates/Stats : Your I-129f was approved in 115 days from your NOA1 date.

What rotten luck! I've answered in your other thread, but just wanted to say this needs to be moved to either the UK regional forum or the Embassy/ consulate discussion.

I was curious as to why the embassy was closed, so looked it up online, and apparently:

Services at the Embassy this week are severely limited, and many interviews for both immigrant and nonimmigrant visas have been rescheduled. This is apparently due to the planned visit to London of the US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

(Link: http://www.usvisalawyers.co.uk/whatsnew.htm )

Sorry to anyone who has had their interview cancelled because of this. I hope the rescheduled interview is not too far away.

I just called the embassy and they said that only NON-immigrant visa appointments have been cancelled? All very confusing!! Feel awful for those who have had their interviews changed :(

For reasons that I could go into but are all very boring and dull, K1 visas are considered Non-Immigrant visas.

It's probably a crowd control thing. There are far more non-immigrant visa interviews (think people going to study abroad in the US for example) given out on any given day than immigrant visas.

I would imagine the embassy staff have a number of dual roles and expectations placed on their time, and a visit by the Secretary is an 'all hands on deck' affair, so something's gotta give. Not to mention the security considerations of keeping the numbers in the area down.

It's not the greatest thing, but it's understandable.
