I would be curious to know how the folks who were approved by the CSC over the past few days answered the Marriage Broker question on they're IMBRA RFE.

Would be interesting to see if answering yes, or no actually makes some sort of difference in the process time.

Yeah same here, and the place I met my fiance I would not classify as a Marriage Broker, it was more of a friend/dating website. But, I answered yes just to please the Gods

We have almost the same timeline, but we answered no to IMBRA RFE. I think our applications will be a good basis of comparison for this question. Good luck to us

I answered no, as we'd met on a message board that had nothing to do with dating.

Timeliney Goodness

Late October, 2002 - Exchange PMs on a message board after being pointed towards each other by mutual friends.

December 30, 2002 - Meet in Edinburgh. I change plans to spend my second week of holiday with Chris.

After many, many trips back and forth...

September 27, 2005 - Chris comes over for three months to try the living together thing.

December 23, 2005 - We go to the UK to spend Christmas with his family (our first Christmas together)

January 4, 2006 - Chris almost doesn't get back into the country, but they end up letting him stay another three months.

February 14, 2006 - Attempted proposal. Aborted due to cold food and bad atmosphere.

February 17, 2006 - Successful proposal. Huzzah!

March 20, 2006 - Finally get I-129F Packet together and sent off to Texas Service Center.

March 28, 2006 - NOA1

April 1, 2006 - Touch

April 4, 2006 - NOA1 letter recieved.

June 23, 2006 - IMBRA RFE Notice Date

June 30, 2006 - IMBRA RFE Recieved in Mail, filled out and sent back Express Mail about an hour later.

Hi Marie,

It really all depends. The USCIS's classification of a Marriage Broker is extremely vague. Most level headed people would think of a Marriage Broker as a place that for money offers personal meetings between two people, or those "love tours".

The USCIS at the moment apparently considers any sort of agency that accepts payment to correspond with someone else. So, in theory because a place like Match.com, or Yahoo Personals charges a monthly fee to get in touch with people, they technically at this point would be considered a Marriage Broker.

Because the real definition of a Marriage Broker was so unclear, I answered yes and explained that where I met my fiance was like a Match.com, or Yahoo Personals, and was a website that has members from all countries, not a specific country or region as many (I consider) Marriage Brokers do.

I've alway thought of a Marriage Broker as a place that accepts a large amount of money, and basically keeps throwing girls at the man until one finally sticks.

Maybe yes, but maybe no. If you refer to the I129F it gets onto specifics of what they consider an IMB.

I answered no, I met my husband in a chat room and it just kinda went from there. I agree with Erik, to me a marriage broker is some sort of agency that is paid to arrange marriage's. I was also in the first batches to come thru and still nothing. I hope we all hear something soon! Good luck!

Yeah, I would believe those would be included as Marriage Brokers as well, although all many of those do is sell the person's address, phone number, email etc. They are not actually involved in the relationship. Were as Sowens mentioned some of these places actually take part in people meeting. They set up dates, etc. etc. To me, those are the "real" Marriage Brokers.

So you see why it's a bit confusing
