Hey guys and girls,

In reading the IV-15 checklist it says that "Please do not mail any documents to the Embassy. You will be required to furnish all documents on the day of your visa interview." However, on DS-156K it's asking me to attach my police and birth certificate... so which do I do?

Is this IV-15 checklist nothing to do with the DS forms.. as in its not a checklist for that? I send that in seperate?

Also its asking for certified copys of my birth certificate.. im assuming they mean original or? Not sure how you would get a birth certificate certified? Do they mean one ordered from the goverment website online?

haha, it's so confusing, I know.

Send in the forms + the checklist.

Do NOT send in the photos, birth certificate, or police record.

The birth certificate is supposedly the long, official type one and I think there's a link on how to get one on the London embassy website.

The term 'certified copy' is totally misleading. I just had a massive erm, "debate" with my ex over his needing a 'certified copy' of my daughter's BC for his Canadian visa application. He got p!ssed off because he thought I was charging him £7 for a photocopy... anyhoo...

A 'certified copy' IS your full birth certificate. So called because it's a 'certified copy of entry' meaning all births, deaths and marriages are listed in a big book. Since the book belongs to the registry office, they issue 'certified copies' of the entry, which details what was recorded at the time of registration.

It does not mean that you need to get your birth certificate photocopied and notarized...

You can either order one from the GRO website, or if you know the district your birth was registered in, contact the registry office there and ask them to look up your record. Some offer the service online, usually through the local council's website. It's a much quicker way of doing it, usually only taking a couple of days to turn around.

Oh, and also, make sure you order the full form, not the short form. It lists your parent/s names and more details of your birth, not just your name, gender and birth date.

Timeline Summary:

Married: 17 July 2010

AOS mailed - Interview : 22 November 2010 - 10 March 2011

ROC mailed - approved: 14 February - 18 June 2013

Citizenship mailed - ceremony: 9 February - 7 June 2017

lol star, thank you so much... if thats the case we could of sent it weeks ago rather than waiting for the certificate! :( Clear as mud lol.

On one of the forms though it says about attaching the police and birth certificate with the passport photo's... so I don't send anything in at all with these ds forms and checklist - I just take all that stuff with the evidence to the interview? What about the affidavit of support?

Sundrop - Yep I managed to order 2 copys from the GRO website, they only do the long versions on there. I just entered in my details and that was it. Ive no idea what district I was born in, just the county.. im sure that will be ok?

Thanks again!

Nope, nothing at all, not even the affidavit of support. You have to have your medical exam at least a week before the interview though...that's a new rule.

Doh, one more question if anyone knows!

At the end of February it will have been 4 months since the NOA2 was approved. Does my letter of intent need to be notarized if the interview date is past the 4 month mark? If so do we both get ours notarized or just me (the UK fiance)?

Thanks again!
