Hello Everyone - Happy New Year!

My wife carries a Philippine Visa and it expires in March 2010. We have heard from friends that we will have to travel to Chicago to get this renewed. This doesn't sound correct to me. Does anyone have any idea's or good information that we can follow?

Thanks!

Do you mean a Philippine Passport?

If that is the case then contact the nearest Philippine Consulate (yes there is one in Chicago). I've heard of some PH Citizens being able to renew their passport via the mail.

Also, asking in the Philippine sub-forum will get you better responses.

moved from General Immigration to Philippines Regional Forum as a more useful location to get the requested information.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

PERSONAL APPEARANCE IS REQUIRED. All applicants, whether for the renewal of a passport, or those applying for the first time must appear personally at the Consulate General for data verification, thumb mark/finger-printing and signing of the application form. Application by mail will not be accepted.

Yeah that sucks to have to go personally to the consulate. My wife just renewed her passport in the philippines and they did all the new fingerprint stuff too.

Yes you have to appear in person at the Chicago Consulate. Marlene and I took time off work to travel to Chicago from Oklahoma City to have hers done in September. The consulate there is not very busy and it shouldn't take much more than an hour to get it all done. You won't get the new passport right away though--they send the application back to Manila for processing. They will mail it to you in 4 - 6 weeks.

Yes, it is a Philippine Passport. I think I said Visa which is incorrect, sorry for any confusion. Thanks for the suggestion.
