Got a Measles vaccine instead of MMR?

So I was extremely pleased that I found a civil surgeon's office that was willing to understand USCIS' requirements for a vaccine-only transcription of the I-693 that wasn't too far away.

Waited an hour in their office for them to tell me that they couldn't complete the form because my vaccines weren't complete. This was news to me, so I had her explain: on my official vaccinations record from Ontario Health, it shows that I received my full MMR as a child, then, ten years later, I received my MMR again. Unfortunately, on the section where it gives actual dates of each shot, it only shows a date next to Measles...

She said that, because the document was conflicting, I either had to clear it up with Ontario Health, or have her give me the required shots for $90 then and there. Either way, the cost of now transcribing this form, because it's not a straight transfer (?) is double..

So, putting aside my displeasure, is there even such a thing as a schoolchild in Ontario receiving a measles-only vaccine? This would've been 1996... the MMR vaccine definitely a widespread option at the time.

Yes, there was a measles only shot. My brother had it in elementary school around the age of ten and he was born in 1987, so that might be around your age. I remember it specifically because it was TERRIFIED of needles and he had no choice but to get it and he begged my Mom to stay home from school that day!

That is around my age group, Sapphire, yes.

Why would they give out the single vaccine when MMR was clearly already out (had it as a baby)?

And the immunization record is so confusing... on the top corner when it talks babout Publicly Funded Routine Immuz., it checks off all three together for a second time. But in the section where each vaccine is dated, only Measles is listed.

Checked my DS-3025, and sure enough, the doc only listed a date next to Measles. So technically, I shouldn't have even passed the medical in TO like that.

Windsor-Essex Health Unit only responds to messages left on their machine. What're the chances they'll call me back in FL? Heh..

I'm not sure what sheet you are looking at, the worksheet from the medical? Or, the sheet from the actual public health department?

Actual medical department.

Basically, the non-specific portion that just shows which publicly funded shots I received, says I received two MMR shots. But the date-specific portion only shows a date next to measles.

By medical department, do you mean Dr. Seidan? That's the sheet they should be using, which should be complete. If they made an error I would get a copy of your records from public health and that should show all your vaccines.

Do you have a sheet from the public health department that lists out all your vaccines? I was able to email Peel to get mine and they mailed it to me a day after I emailed.

Last resort, I'd do a titres test.

The only thing I can think of as far as a different measles shot, is that the MMR measles is the German Measles is it not? Perhaps the later measles "only" shot was just the "red" measles? I'm just guessing here...

The MMR (German Measles shot included in that) should be the only one that matters.

I did a quick search online and saw that in 1996 there was an outbreak of the measles in Ontario, so they re-vaccinated certain school age children for a shrot period of time. My brother was part of that crew. I must've just missed it because I know I didn't get one.

There is no way you are allowed in school without 2 MMR shots, so you must have it somewhere Sam, it's just not documented properly.

I finally got ahold of the Immunization Hotline for Ontario and exactly as you stated, there was an outbreak of red measles at that time, and so all of the school children required that additional shot. It's since changed to the second MMR shot being a requirement. All I got was the red measles shot.

I'm also completely frightened of needles so I generally recall all instances I tried to hide away from school, haha. My record must've been overlooked because I never did have that second shot.

Oi. I definitely wish this had been caught prior to immigration so OHIP could've covered it.

Wow, are you kidding? That doesn't seem right...

Thankfully, after doing some calling around, the county health department here offers the shot for about $30 less than every other clinic in the area, including the civil surgeon's office. Now to figure out if I'm brave enough to up and go there today, or to wait like a coward.

Oh, my mistake....brain fart. The MMR shot was free, it was the chicken pox shot I had to pay for ($80 each)...as I never got chicken pox as a kid.

Go today! You'll be happy you did & it'll be over!

I'm not sure if this helps at all but on my vaccination record there is a mon-measles shot I had in like 1999 (there was an outbreak at school). Maybe this is something like that ...?
