So I typed up the letter which stated my name, position and salary and printed it on the company's letter head and asked my manager to sign it, and he said NO. He said I have to ask HR. Apperently my supervisor would be the right person to sign it. Well, she's a little hard to get a hold of. She travels a lot and is at her office probably 5 times a year. Why the hell can't my manager just sign it! Waiting around on HR is worse or similar to waiting for the USCIS.

I hate my job.

</end rant>

Just get your manager's manager to sign it. Everyone answers to someone.

See if you can e-mail your supervisor a copy of the letter and have her fax it to you. Because my HR people are completely inept and unable to fulfill the simplest of requests, I just sent a copy of my end of year pay stub and a recent pay stub with my affidavit of support and that was accepted. Good luck!

seldi,

Smart manager. Do what he told you and speak to your company's HR department - if your company is large enough to have an HR department that's generally where things of this nature are handled, and for good reason.

I agree with Yodrak, the HR department knows a lot more about your finances and salary than probably your manager or superviser can remember. They are the authority when it comes to money and benefits.

I don't have pay stubs because I get direct deposit. Booo.

I guess I could ask George Bush to sign it, since he's technically the boss

With direct deposit, you should still get stubs. They look just like checks but say..."THIS IS NOT A CHECK" on them.

Just because you should, of course doesn't mean you actually do. :P

But I betcha you could go to your HR department and they can get ahold of some stubs for you.

I can definetly get paystubs from HR. I mean, there's many other ways around this whole thing. I just don't understand why my manager won't sign the letter!

It is not the responsibility of the manager...it falls into the purview of HR...that is their function...they do this kind of stuff.

what kind of schleezz outfit is this...where they dont give you earnings statement as required by law, etc.

GO TO HR WITH YOUR LETTER!!!

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

I did read you Mr. Yodrak sir. I'm unsure of why he wouldn't be allowed. He hired me, signed the employment letter (which stated my salary), signed employee evaluation reports (which also stated salary), etc

Update: still waiting for HR.

Update: still waiting for HR.

When you speak to your HR department, you should also be sure to inquire about your paystubs. Even with direct deposit, you would normally receive a paystub and since these are valuable pieces of information that you should be keeping, you may want to be sure you get copies of the old ones and ensure that you receive them in the future.

I have done these letters in the past for my place of employment, and yes, it has to be done by HR only. I don't think you can fight it, sorry.

Now as far as no paystub, well that just isn't normal, even with direct deposit. Our company doesn't issue these, but they offer them online. I believe it is the law that they provide this to you, not that you have to request it. What kind of company is this? It must be pretty small to not understand the laws.

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'
