AS a person who has been stopped and interrogated and fingerprinted twice in the last year at different border crossings this women really pisses me the @#$$ off.

Access to information for entering a county is readily available. You cannot blame ignorance, racial profiling etc on it. It is up to you the individual to do your research. I know alot of us think the two countries are sisters but FFS, don't pull this BS. I seriously just wanna go up and smack this women upside the head along with half the other commenties.

BLARGH!

I posted my comment on cbc.ca ;)

This woman bought a one way ticket to visit her husband in the US. As a Canadian who is now a permanent resident in the US and knows the immigration system fairly well. That one way ticket is a massive red flag. White Canadians get asked those same questions all the time. When crossing the border you need to show PROOF OF TIES TO CANADA. This is things like a round trip ticket, bank account statemens showing funds to support yourself while in the US, rental agreements, utility bills, letters from employers etc etc. That was her error, she didn't prove she was coming back to Canada. She bought a one way ticket to visit her new husband in the US. Any sane and comitted customs agent would say no. If she went back with proof of ties to Canada and a return ticket I can almost guarantee she'd cross. This isn't an issue of race or religion this is an issue of common sense and not feeling some ridiculous self entitlement of being able to enter another country. Being a Canadian citizen and having a passport DOES NOT equal entry into the US. Get over it already. Crying to the media probably won't help her case at all in my honest opinion.

Another day, and another race card played ( and yes their is racial discrimination, but this is clearly not the case)! Such a sad world we live in!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

It's not only white Canadians that get asked these questions are taken to secondary and sometimes denied entry

I was pulled to secondary for the same reason this woman did.

1 way ticket and my fiance in the US.

I also had my dog and a huge bag, I guess that clued them off :P

Oh well, ancient history.

I would feel terrible if she had a user name here on VJ, a long time member, participating in the MENA forum for ages..

Wouldn't You ?

No.

If she's a VJ member, she should know better than to take a risk like that.....

"Manna said she has contacted a lawyer and is hoping to get help."

Yah, good luck, lmao! The lawyer will just tell she was inadmissible due to immigration laws.

lol I understand this but the problem when someone cries racism is that the most common raced to be assumed to not be hassled is the caucasian people

More nuggets from the windsor article:

"She's trying to claim it is a security issue, but it is an immigration issue," he said. "Hundreds of people come in wearing Muslim attire or other traditional dress."

I know because in ANY airport you see DOZENS of women in traditional muslim garb.

When Manna returned the next day, she said she was again not allowed on a flight.

Did she show up the next day with a one way ticket? No proof of ties to Canada? Then the same damned thing is gonna happen.

Mike Savage, MP for Dartmouth-Cole Harbour, said he is meeting with Manna on Friday and will do what he can to help.

"We're going to try and get some answers and either ease her mind or else if something has happened that is wrong here, hold some people to account," he said.

Her MP Mr Savage needs to tell the heffer to SHOW TIES TO CANADA.

This story really screams "LAZY". She's simply cannot be bothered to read easily available information. I'm not quite sure what the Canadian equivalent is, but in the u.s. it is travel.state.gov.

well both countries have some sort of "border security" office in fact if you go to the Montreal trudeau airport they have both links including phone numbers you can call to ask questions beforehand. And " i didn't know that or realize that" is not an excuse. Especially if you are of a different nationality. With so much in the last 20 years you would think it be a routine thing for someone like her to check stuff out beforehand.

and another question that occured to me.. her husband sounds like he is not american by birth, or that is the impression i get. if so that means he went thought some sort of immigration process more than likely. so he should have some understanding of the process. Of course this is just pure speculation and conjecture but i mean come on!
