NS woman denied entry

I guess they were profiling her too, they don't like Canadians of Irish descent that are over 6 feet tall

I think the real reason why she was denied(NOT a race issue, it was the fact she might be moving illegally) is very easy for people like us to see. We have gone through, or are going through the legal process of moving to the U.S. Therefore, when scenarios like this happen, & some people cry "profiling" we shake our heads.

Those people aren't as "educated" I guess you'd call it, as we are when it comes to moving legally.

Who knows....maybe she just wanted to visit & then come back, but this should be a lesson to her(& others who read some of the intelligent comments) that you need to be prepared to be grilled/bring proof of your intentions when you cross into the States.

Just bad reporting is what this is. Placating and abiding by the dumbing down of the general public. Propagandizing the news headlines du jour and hoping that the general public doesn't notice the lack of facts or verification of events and such...

Yes that's true. How many people think nothing of entering the U.S. - it's no more to them than a friendly hi from the border person and they are on their way. So yes, because they haven't seen what we have seen on this board, a story like this seems completely out of the blue.

I went into the article, read most of the posts and voted thumbs up on the ones (including Arabella and Trailmix's posts) that said it was an immigration issue.

Ugh. That story makes me angry...along with many of the comments on it. The U.S. is another country, dammit! We're not entitled to being allowed entry!

You know, in a funny way, the longer I go through the immigration process, the more I respect it. I mean, I'm not happy that I've been waiting eight weeks for an interview date...but in general, I appreciate that there IS a thorough process in place, and I hate it when people think they're being hard done by when THEY don't respect the process...

If that person was a member here, she would have been smart enough to travel with documents proving she had ties to Canada. This person and the author of the article are sadly misinformed about this whole process, as is much of the world. The using of the race card, however, is low. Ignorance at its best!

I was going to comment on it as well, but then didn't want to go through the hassle of signing up for it and such. But yeah, it's funny how uneducated people are about INS and not showing ties to Canada in a situation like this.

One way plane ticket, no big ties to Canada etc. And yet she cries fowl because she thinks its racial. Well there's probably a good reason she was singled out, this is because everyone else had proper documentation and round trip tickets and showed good ties to Canada. Ugh...

Yeah, you just have to look at some of the comments, like the guy who said something along the lines of - This woman is a Canadian citizen, travelling from a FREE country to a FREE county etc etc etc

It's like people forget they are two separate countries and these border crossing requirements apply to both INDIVIDUAL countries.

One thing though, it's somewhat understandable that people are misinformed. For many years this probably wasn't a big deal, how many of us, as children, crossed in to the U.S. on numerous occasions - i'm sure most times we were not even asked to give proof of citizenship at all - there was no question of 'secondary'

I don't even think the one-way ticket was an issue. I've flown into and out of Canada numerous times on one-way tickets, but I always had an answer for when I was leaving Canada and coming home to the States either by air or being driven by my husband. There are times when I may fly up to see him and he drives me home and we have never had an issue with that. So this woman must not have had an answer on when she was going back to Canada. A real big no-no as we all know.
