I've had American $1 coins before, given back as change! No clue what type they were

At my first job I was loading up someone's car for some older guy who was from Texas - and he had a ton of the Eisenhower dollars.

He tipped me one, and since I thought they were so cool I traded him 5 bucks for 5 more. I still have them stashed somewhere in my coin collection I think. =)

Montreal Interviewer: "What do you have in common with each other?"

Peachey: "We're REALLY weird."

Montreal Interviewer (incredulously to me): "Do you agree with that?"

<I think back to several days before the interview. Driving through the country, passing a field with cows...>

Peachey: "MOOOO! MOOOOO! Does this make me weird?"

Me: "No, well yes. Here, let me roll down the windows so they can hear you better!"

Peachey: "MOOOOO!!!!"

There was never one issued by the US Treasury, but they do exist.

However, before the Civil War, banks operating under State charters issued notes of that denomination. These notes were printed by private contractors and were not obligations of the federal government.

that's cool. Tim told me about that. I keep saying, "well bring them back!!" :lol:

My friend got 3 of those silver US dollars as change from the subway ticket machine in New York. At first she wasn't sure what they were! I haven't seen any here though.

A $3 bill? that would help lots!!! It's always so funny when I look in my wallet and think, "hey I'm rich!!" only to find they're all ones!!! " Oh...only $10..." :blush:
