 I thought the same thing about the yardwork! I'm not a fan... But Bill actually enjoys cutting the grass, he does it for his parents voluntarily.

We looked at a bunch of condos and townhouses before deciding on a house. I liked the idea of townhouse living, and it seemed like you got better upgrades for your money, but I hated the stupid high HOA fees that were involved. Even though the house we bought was more expensive than the townhouses, the monthly payments will be less.

Yea I chose this place because the HOA wasn't strict and the fees weren't through the roof.

We're thinking we'll stay for a few years and then move into somewhere else later. Mike would like to move to PA, and I don't mind that but not into Philadelphia itself, maybe north of the city more like in Bucks County or something. I couldn't live in Philadelphia, I love it to go in have a few drinks, eat dinner, see a show, walk around, but I enjoy coming back to my safe suburbia.

Mike however loves Philadelphia, he works there and says he's from there... I'm always correcting him and saying: "No dear, you're from Jersey! Don't be ashamed! pump that fist!" :P

Congrats on the house TM and Sprail!

I do really like our apartment, but can't wait to have a house of our own!

We're hoping to buy something in the Summer of 2011. Hopefully the housing market won't completely turn around, ha. The thing about houses in NY, well in Nassau County where I want to live, is the property taxes are ridiculous! I've heard they can be like 10,000/year. That's almost as much as the mortgage!

Thsi is random but oneof my 30-something year old cousins just got divorced and is totally have a mid-life crisis and posting about all these trips and parties on facebook. It's really entertaining.

My uncle just got divorced and is the same way Sapphire! It's so hilarious how much they turn around once they're loose

Yea property taxes in NJ are insane too. Luckily ours aren't that bad because it's a condo, but I have heard some places are like 14,000 - 20,000 a year. Sorry I don't care how much money I make, I wouldn't be paying that.

So many people are moving to the Carolinas now because of the high taxes here. My inlaws were looking for properties there for retirement.

Seriously, Westchester is like $25,000/year! And we'd still have to send out kids to private school! No thanks!

My in-laws are retiring in Las Vegas. They bought a house there already and it is SO cheap. I'm trying to convince R that we should move there. We can get a 4 bedroom house with a pool for like $250,000. We could even get a smaller house and I could stay home with the kids. I know Vegas is not the most dynamic city, but I could see it working out. We'll see what happens!

So I get a call at around 5:30pm yesterday from the HR person, asking me to pick one of the few remaining shift times that they have.

I'm thinking "huh? Ok....."

So I did. I wonder why they would have done that? I didn't get a shift I would have liked (10:30am - 7:30pm Sunday - Friday with Sat and a float day off...I would have rather had an early one)

I did ask if you could switch shifts eventually.

It ws really weird. One one hand I still have to interview, but on the other it sounds like I've already been selected. Sooooo confusing

PLUS I still have to write my essay on "What makes a good employee" Oh this is going to be fun

Vegas is an incredibly depressing city to live in. The infrastructure is horrible and the schools are sad. I had a friend who got a job with a casino doing statistical analysis. He took the job because it paid $150K starting straight out of college. After the first year, he had moved about 30 miles away because he couldn't take it in the city. After 2 years, he was living practically in Barstow (90 minutes away).

Las Vegas is a very beautiful city, if you're in the right neighborhood. If anything, I would look into getting a house in North Las Vegas. It's the more....townish part of Vegas. Basically, where everyone lives, eats, works.

I'm sure it's not the best city to live, actually i know it isn't... we would live in North Las Vegas near my in-laws. I highly doubt we would end up there simply because my husband will never leave NY. Does seem like it would get old fast... but the cost of living is so low... I guess you get what you pay for!

I forgot about the schools...yeah, they have an incredibly high drop out rate. If you have to move to Vegas, move for retirement. XD

My wife and I pretty much followed the path it seems most in this thread did. We lived with my parents for about 6 months, then she went apartment shopping and we got a nice little place to get used to the bills and responsibility for a year. After the market crashed she crunched our numbers and began house shopping and managed to find a house that she just loved. I still remember as I was cleaning the lil 655 square foot apartment we were in, she comes back with some information on the house she found with a friend and it was 2,051 square feet Lol. I asked her what's with the huge increase and she just said "Oh the potential" hahaha.

I can honestly say I've never been happier with a purchase in my life, even if the money is a little too tight to allow me to buy my surround sound that I was SO badly as I'm a sports and video game freak Lol

My wife has been back since June 5, 2007. Now we're just livin' man, L I V I N :)

That's sad to hear. Vegas seems like it has so much potential... but also a lot of poverty/bad infrstructure. Somethign to think about.
