sorry for this stupid question but what is a bonafide marriage??

From the dictionary:

–adjective

1. made, done, presented, etc., in good faith; without deception or fraud: a bona fide statement of intent to sell.

2. authentic; true: a bona fide sample of Lincoln's handwriting.

A bonafide marriage is basically a true marriage. People marry for green cards, so their marriage is not bonafide.

If you married for love, yes you do.

You need to prove that in your visa. It includes things such as joint bills together, plane ticket stubs to visiting eachother, pictures, etc. I didn't do a CR-1, so I'm not exactly sure what to add.

after we got married we started renting a townhouse that we both signed for even though i dont live there yet, is that proof too?? Im not sure i have plane tickets anymore but i have the stamps in my passport?!?!

we have only been married 4 months, and if anything i would only have 2 plane tickets as he is in the us army and was stationed here in germany till january last year and i only saw him twice after he left

Did he put you on his medical insurance, or add you to his bank account (if possible). This can also be used for evidence.

Well i get medical through tricare as im his dependant, he is my sponser on my dependant id card..is that enough? we didnt have time to open a joint bank account the last time i visited

Does the card have both names on it? If so, photocopy the front and back, I'm sure it could be used as evidence since he's sponsoring your health care. Maybe a print out from the medical company showing he's sponsoring your healthcare as well would be good, if you can get that without too much trouble.

Yes all that stuff is good...dont get too caught up in the evidence in the beginning stages... sharing bills, leases, bank accounts. That is all good...anything that proves ongoing relationship. For us, we didnt have much to send other than some pictures, affidavits from people that were at the wedding. When my wife goes to the interview i will give her copies of phone bills, chat logs, skype call records, and bank statements...copy of my will...stuff like that.

Can you be on a bank account without a ssn? C tried to put me on hers with 2 different banks in Florida with no luck. No SSN, no can do. Is this something bank specific?

if i am not mistaken the USCIS wants you to prove a bonafide relationship which goes beyond the marriage which is proven by a marriage certificate

a bonafide relationship is proven by evidence of ongoing interaction between petitioner and beneficiary (travel evidence, pictures, co-ownership of assets, etc)

i don't think its possible to open an account in the US without a SSN however if you can open an account in the country of the beneficiary, that would serve as evidence of co-ownership of assets

Bank of America will let you be added to someone's account without having a SSN. You are required to give them the number when you get it though. I used my Canadian passport and Driver's License as ID which they accepted until I got my SSN.

We had the same issue in Florida... We were married for 6 years and tried at 5 banks (Wachovia, B of America, Bank Atlantic, First Federal and one other I cant remember) they all said no... There are others here who have been successful in getting their SOs on the accounts without a SSN??? Someone said HSBC but we do not have one around us...
